ถูก/โดน ขาย tòok · dohn kăai = was sold

ถูก/โดน ฆ่า tòok · dohn kâa = was killed

ถูก/โดน ปฏิเสธ tòok · dohn · bpà-dtì-sèt = was rejected

ถูก/โดน ทิ้ง tòok · dohn tíng = was dumped

ถูก/โดน ด่า tòok · dohn dàa = was scolded

ถูก/โดน ตบ tòok · dohn dtòp = to get slapped

ถูก/โดน เอาใจ tòok · dohn ao jai = get spoiled (people, animal)

กลัว glua = to be afraid, scared

In Thai, we like to say กลัว (glua) for I’m afraid, afraid. Aka กลัวตกเครื่องบิน/gluua dtòk krêuuang bin (I’m afraid I’m going to miss the plane). In English, you can say “I’m afraid” for something that already happened just to be polite “I’m afraid you have missed the plane”.

In Thai, it’s always about what has not yet happened.

You can use กลัว (glua) with passive easily. Try these exercises.

Remember you can use ถูก or โดน. But ถูก sounds more educated.

EXERCISE:

I’m afraid that I’m going to be rejected tomorrow.

Don’t be scared of getting dumped by your bf. You can find a new one.

I’m afraid I’m going to be misunderstood.

I’m afraid when I get back home I'm going to get scolded by mom.

Do you want to get slapped?

This kid was too spoiled by the parents.

I don’t want to be looked at as a bad mother.
