In this Patreon post, I want to explain a little bit about the word องค์ (ong) as the classifier for kings as I mentioned in the video. Let's take a look.
As most of you know, the word คน (kon) is usually the default classifier for people.
For example:
แม่ 1 คน (mae 1 kon) = one mom
ผู้หญิง 2 คน (poo ying song kon) = two women
เพื่อนไทย 4 คน (peuan thai see kon) = four Thai friends
However, for kings and gods, it's different. We use the word องค์ (ong)
พระเจ้า 2 องค์ (prajao song ong) = Two gods
พระเจ้าองค์นี้ (prajao ong nee)= This god
กษัตริย์องค์ไหน (gasat ong nai)= which king?
กษัตริย์องค์ที่ 1 (gasat ong tee neung)= the first king
For monks, it's also different. I'm going to attach a photo of the classifier for monks.
