Hello guys, in this post, I want to talk about 3 words that I used in the video:
ก้าง(gang), บ้าง(bang), พวก(puak)
1. ก้าง (gâang) means fish bones. The word for bone is กระดูก (grà-dòok) which can be used with all types of bones (human, animal) except fish bones.
- There's a common expression for this word: เป็นก้างขวางคอ (bpen gâang kwăang kor)
- เป็นก้างขวางคอ (bpen gâang kwăang kor) literally means "to be the fish bones blocking the throat". This expression means "to be a person who interrupts other people and makes other people unable to date, make out or start a romantic relationship properly. Some of you might know this in English as "a cockblock"
2. บ้าง (bâang) has a few uses, but it's most frequently used when you want to ask another person to give a list. For example:
- วันนี้อยากทำอะไรบ้าง (wan née yàak tam à-rai bâang) = what do you want to do today? (tell me a few things)
- วันนี้อยากทำอะไร (wan née yàak tam à-rai) = what do you want today? (doesn't specify that you want to hear a few things.
- เคยไปเที่ยวประเทศไหนบ้าง (koiie bpai tîieow bprà-têt năi bâang) = what countries have you been to? (list them out! I want to know)
- เคยไปเที่ยวประเทศไหน (koiie bpai tîieow bprà-têt năi) = what countries have you been to.
[**The sentence above is not wrong, but a native speaker would always put บ้าง (bâang) in this type of sentence]
3. พวก (pûuak) is very spoken, very colloquial. It is translatable to "things like", "in the category of".
ชอบพวกอาหารเผ็ดๆ (chôp pûuak aa-hăan pèt) = I like things like spicy food
ชอบพวกผลไม้เมืองร้อน (chôp pûuak pŏn-lá-mái meuuang rón) = I like things like tropical fruit
