2024-12-03 21:26:15 +0000 UTCNot a big fan of these lists as they mostly feature the big names. Wish there were more hidden gems. Happy to see Jeff Wayne and PFM included.

2024-12-02 12:00:38 +0000 UTCWhere's the Yes love? New Language is an awesome song, at least the equal of their 1970's mini-epics.
Tom (the soggy one)
2024-12-01 17:22:48 +0000 UTCPFM! That one is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind record.

2024-11-30 11:48:15 +0000 UTCMost if not all of the Strawbs songs on this channel have been short. This selection is a true prog journey and like others have said, would be something "new" for us all.

2024-11-29 15:21:53 +0000 UTCNeverland by Marillion is an amazing song and this live performance highlights Marillions brilliance as a live band. Doug won't be disappointed

2024-11-29 03:20:21 +0000 UTCCome on, let's see some more love for Nightwish! They're one of the biggest bands in their field of music, and yet they're languishing not far from the bottom...their version of Walking In The Air is an EPIC track and deserves more votes! :-)

2024-11-27 20:20:38 +0000 UTCNeverland by Marillion is my favourite song from the album Marbles (which is really good) and from the Steve Hogarth period (which spans 30 years now) as a whole. My vote is on Marillion this time. Iβm NOT a Gentle Giant fan (many votes), so Iβm hoping King Crimson will win this vote πππ»

2024-11-27 10:16:17 +0000 UTCYeah, there were also other Italian bands who tried to break into the UK/US markets, Consumers back then, like today, just struggle with music in an unknown language. It's rather silly because the vocal melodies and all the other elements are present. Some of my favorite RPI are the 'one and dones' of course. Bands like Il Balleto di Bronzo, Museo Rosenbach, Metamorphosis, etc, are all very unique.

2024-11-27 05:33:14 +0000 UTCAnd Pete Sinfieldβs lyrics for PFM were not translations, of course, rather entirely new texts. (He tried to warn them that the lyrics they wrote for Chocolate Kings would be unlikely to go down well in the US - IIRC they were promptly dropped by the US distributorβ¦)

2024-11-27 03:26:44 +0000 UTCThis is the no less excellent rendering by the seven piece line-up, the drum trio parts scored by Gavin Harrison, Jakko delivering a strong vocal whilst playing all the guitar parts that Robert Frippβs New Standard Tuning prevents him from playing, and of course some other notable contributors. We also get the benefit of multiple camera positions and timely vision mixing to allow us to follow the detail of particular passages.

2024-11-27 00:44:38 +0000 UTC@Guitar Channel Oh, no! Not a mess at all. Gavin Harrison arranged all of their drum parts so that what you hear is one drum part played by six hands. It's nothing short of brilliant! Also, this version will contain a Gavin drum solo, and that's a thing of wonder! I didn't vote for it--it's doing fine without me. But I don't think it's the "mess" you're expecting.

2024-11-26 23:37:28 +0000 UTCLike other great Italian bands, the original Italian versions of PFM are regarded as definitive. Thus, for English 1st language countries, confusion was created when English language versions of what were originally Italian lyrics appeared later. This led to some sloppy translations of various classic RPI bands, or, writing whole new sets of lyrics (e.g. Banco on ELP's Manticore label). The results were mixed, unfortunately, and only PFM were able to tour the UK and US. (If this version is from Per un Amico, it should be Italian.)

2024-11-26 23:09:00 +0000 UTCUh-oh, I did not realise that, and I think many didn't! I didn't vote for the piece because I saw it has many votes already and would rather see some other music reacted to, like Camel or Uriah Heep.

2024-11-26 22:58:59 +0000 UTCI remember Doug recently (unless my ageing memory fails me again...!) saying he wanted to get to some PFM? If so, looks like a good chance here?
Adrian Goodrich
2024-11-26 22:57:35 +0000 UTCA lot of great songs, and bands, but the KC seems to be way out in front. And this version of Schizoid isn't the excellent 'USA' live version, with the tremendous Bruford/Wetton/Cross lineup. It's that more recent drum trio configuration.

2024-11-26 22:38:40 +0000 UTCFascinating selection here! I suggested "Lunar Sea" on Discord. I considered suggesting "21st Century Schizoid Man, but dismissed it cos I knew Doug had already done it. Except, I now realise...not a live version! And, mindful of the current leaderboard artistes, my final list was "Surrender" by U2; "The King of Sunset Town" or "Berlin" by Marillion; "the Magician's Birthday" or "The Spell" by Uriah Heep, or "Grave New World" by the Strawbs. (Ok, and a couple of others I dismissed as I thought unlikely to get much traction.) So I'm absolutely delighted that all these superb bands are represented, and they get my votes. ps Delighted to to see Kansas and GG and PFM represented and looking good!

2024-11-26 22:15:39 +0000 UTCUh oh. 3 drummers, all on kits, no mixed percussion? Glad I passed on that, what a mess. I'll vote for the Grateful Dead instead.
Guitar Channel
2024-11-26 21:43:49 +0000 UTCIn case there's any confusion - Yes, Doug has reacted to KC's "21st C Schizoid Man" studio version. This is a live version from 2015 with their 7 person lineup.

2024-11-26 19:45:10 +0000 UTCThere were many with 13 votes, so I made 14 the cap...which gave us nineteen total finalists.
