Jazz Appreciation Month: Music by Lyle Mays & Mitch Towne | Behind the Score Ep. 64

In this month's episode, I'm taking a deep dive into two jazz compositions written by talented keyboardists. Lyle Mays' music is widely known and appreciated...and rightfully so. Mitch Towne is still a bit under the radar but has decades of stellar work on his resume...and he's a good friend of mine.

I'm analyzing and taking you through BILL EVANS by Lyle Mays and SOME WORK OF NOBLE NOTE, MAY YET BE DONE by Mitch Towne. I hope you enjoy!

Doug - would you be able to share the table of contents for the Lyle book with us? It will inform future recommendation requests.

The bassist Marc Johnson was actually Bill Evans' bassist in the late 70s. Johnson's solo output is worth investigating, and one album has Metheny on it.

Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny. - Frank Zappa ;)

You know... Lyles first album "Lyle Mays" Is a jazz fusion masterpiece, with Close to home as a wonderful moving ending. I have yet to see it on any reaction channel, so it would have been wonderful if you could share your view on this album in a EPL episode!
