QUEEN: Sheer Heart Attack | Extended Play Lounge Ep. 90

I'm pleased to continue on in the Queen discography. This time, with Sheer Heart attack, I'm filling a hole between two albums I've previously heard: Queen 2 and A Night at the Opera. This third album from Queen is enjoyable from front to back, showcasing the band's unique flair that has made them rock and roll royalty.

I'd agree that no one really sounds like Queen...but do give a listen to Sparks's 'Kimono My House' (from earlier in the same year this one came out) for a sound that might have influenced them to some extent...

If you have any question as to whether Flick Of The Wrist is about their management/label agreement exactly as Death On Two Legs, the last verse should clear any confusion: "Seduce you with his money make machine Cross-Collateralize (a specific royalty handling scam run by labels) Reduce you to a muzak fake machine Then the last goodbye" Queen recorded their first three albums primarily on "spec" - meaning no up front money to pay for studio costs, all collected at inflated rates on the back end if the band ever actually sells anything. Actual recording times were often whatever available off-hours slots materialized. Queen's recording contract was particularly egregious, making the likelihood that the band would ever see any royalties rather slim. In the music industry, cross-collateralization is a contract provision that allows a record label or publisher to recoup advances and costs from one project using royalties from another project, even if they are unrelated or under separate agreements. This can delay an artist's earnings and make it difficult for them to recoup investments.

I love this reaction. I bought the album a while ago on the back of hearing Brighton Rock on the FF Guitar Favs video (or poss even on Daily Doug Radio b4 that) and also your reaction to the two The Lap of the Gods songs.
