Nice to Cocteau Twins make the list.

Robert Thornton

I'm uprised Annie Lenox isn't on this list,Janis Joplin,Ect Ect...

“Total Eclipse of the Heart” tends to be rather polarizing. People typically have strongly held opinions on this song. I am including a link to a BBC article about the song, which explains a lot about it. Please note: I do not believe that “Total Eclipse…” is the most epic song ever. https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20230209-total-eclipse-of-the-heart-the-most-epic-song-ever-written

Steve Hall

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" is perhaps the best song to represent the overblown, over-produces 80's power pop ballad. Jim Steinman certainly knew that he was being over the top with this song, and he wallowed in it joyously. Jim embodied the ideal of "Too much of everything is just enough" in everything he did, and everything he enjoyed, including music. Verdi and Puccini were not big enough or glorious enough for him to fully enjoy, Jim's greatest musical pleasure was experiencing Wagner. He was hoping to capture that bombastic sound with this song. Clearly, there are varying opinions about his success.

Steve Hall

"It's still a female ensemble performance. " Good point. It was still borderline for me, but with only 5 votes switch my vote for the iconic Bjork instead.

D

Well, you can blame me for that. When I submitted it, it was submitted as a performance by Anonymous 4, and the vonBingen attribution was contextual information on composition. It's still a female ensemble performance.

Peter Tutak

I've asked Doug to replace my submission video of the Iron Maidens "The Trooper" with the below one as it is better quality. I hope the fact that it hasnt got many views so far is because the quality isn't great, and hope the new video will boost its performance :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUrmRZe2TOs&t=94s

I decided not to vote for "Veni Creator Spiritus" for this reason.

D

According to a youtube comment "Veni Creator Spiritus" is falsely attributed here. To quote: "This piece opens Anonymous 4's "Origin of Fire" album, which features music by Hildegard, but this work is NOT by Hildegard. It is an anonymous setting, from a German manuscript of around Hildegard's time, of the Pentecost hymn. Non-Hildegard works were included in this album in order to show how radically Hildegard's poetry and music differed from the standard liturgical chant of her time. Same for A4's earlier Hildegard album "11,000 Virgins."" Easy mistake since the album is subtitled "Music and Visions of Hildegard von Bingen."

The version with the Welsh male voice choir, Only Men Aloud and Bonnie Tyler, is a much better version of this in my opinion

Ruth James

So happy to see my submission (Kate Bush - Room for the Life) through to the poll for the first time! So many great songs performed (and written) by women!

Ruth James

My only hopes for the inclusion of most of my selections rely on the very faint hope of a turnabout in which the music with fewest votes will be selected 😗

George Davis-Stewart

There are so many songs trom both Tori Amos and Kate Bush's discography to choose from. I agree with the Tori choice, but I would have picked Little Earthquakes title song. And I had to go Tenner for Kate. This Woman's Work is my favorite.

Andrew Marsh

Karen Carpenter, one of the greatest vocalists of all time, with a distinctive three-octave contralto range

Sharon Engel Abraham

You are allowed to just not vote for it if you don't like it. That's why I voted for other songs. People enjoy different things and that's OK.

Matthew Hackbert

Such a range of musical experiences across this vocal palette. I have selected my five shades of delight.

George Davis-Stewart

Hoping for a tad more support for Sandy Denny's lovely rendition of her own song Fotheringay.

rogerb

Is it possible to cast a negative vote? 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' is one of the most appalling pieces of overblown schlock to ever be inflicted upon an unsuspecting world.

Joe Harley

Stevie Nicks is Queen!

KellieE69

Huzzah! I had my doubts Just Like That would make the poll, as it’s very different than what Dr. Doug typically listens to. I doubt even more that it will make the FF, but I do encourage everyone to give it a listen. The story told via the lyrics should be heard by everyone.

Illume Eltanin

Kate & Tori!! There goes a tenner: sublime!

Oliver Kogler Kommunikata

I have a soft spot for both Tori Amos and Bjork. The 90's were a great time for those two, although Tori has still pumped out some great albums since.

Aaron E Austin

Bonnie Tyler for no other reason than the upcoming solar eclipse.

Sam

Let's give One Note Samba some love!
