Why do people not vote?

In this video, I explore six reasons why people VOTE not to vote. See what I did there? Eh?

I know nearly all of you vote, but if you have that friend who has never voted and refuses to, maybe quietly send this to them? One of my missions in life is to increase civic engagement, and that always starts with getting people to the ballot box.

Thank you for your continued support!

Hola Tristan! Wow thank you for those kind words. I appreciate you being here.

Hola SeΓ±or Beat, this comment is not relevant to your newest upload. I just became a supporter on here after discovering your channel earlier this year. Just wanted to offer my sincerest thanks for what you do. You are a model for the type of person I would like to be. I genuinely believe your channel has been the final and biggest push into pursuing a teaching career… and yes, I do want to teach history… go Thunder!

Tristan Markson

Thanks Jack, and that all makes total sense!

Mr. Beat

I would say I fall into the #5 category in that, while I almost always vote, I do so with the belief that it's mathematically pointless. Even in very local elections I feel basically the same way. So why do I show up to vote? Well, really just because I find it fun to vote. Also the fulfilling of a civic obligation gives me a sense of patriotic satisfaction that is worth the opportunity cost of voting. GROUPS of people voting definitely matters though. I wish more young people voted. I'm basically the only one among my friends who votes at all (despite the fact that many of the ones who don't constantly complain about their elected officials). Anyway, another good video, Mr. Beat!

Yep, it's all easily traceable

Mr. Beat

I never got the election deniers mind with the voting machines because every electronic count has a backup paper ballot.

Douglas Martin

Very important points to bring up. These election deniers are quite something. πŸ™„

Great topic and analysis. Sadly, there is about 25-30% of this country that has gone off the deep end with not trusting the electoral process unless their candidate wins. I don’t know how we resolve that issue? Also, due to the electoral college if you don’t live in a swing state in a federal election basically your a 2nd class citizen and your concerns aren’t as important as someone from a swing state. How can anyone justify that system ?

Naterade

I get that sentiment. πŸ˜„ Thanks for the kind words.

Mr. Beat

Good video Matt, thanks. Since 1968 I’ve voted in every election, off election, local election, primary election -phew! Here in WA we vote entirely by mail and I still ger a thrill when my ballot arrives. However, I would note that about 20% of Americans seem to be bat-sh*t crazy (moon landing deniers, Holocaust deniers, 2020 election deniers etc.) and I’d prefer them to stay as far away from a ballot box as possible.
