The Gulf War Explained

I finally covered the Gulf War, and I plan on future videos about the Iraq War and War in Iraq as well (eventually). I've been putting off videos on both the Philippine–American War and Vietnam War, but look for those as well at some point.

Thanks for your continued support!

Edit: Thanks to Osbers and Andrew for pointing out the mistake. It's re-uploaded!

lol no it's not, but indeed kind of random. Well put about oil. If I ever steal that line in a video, I give you full credit. lol

Mr. Beat

Heck yeah, and thank you!

Mr. Beat

Great explanation! Appreciate being one of the first viewers :)

Good video! Oil- helped us create modern civilization, it also helped us destroy it! Got to love the irony. Also, whenever I hear Saddam Hussein’s name I was always think of Michael Scott calling Ryan the temp and impersonating Saddam on his voicemail. Is that wrong ?

Naterade

It very well could have been 2003! :/

Mr. Beat

Thanks. I don't think anyone has ever explained this to me. Although, I "imagine" I recall the Wednesday night (no clue what year) when the TV interrupted regular programming to share that US was bombing Baghdad & the footage showed the bombs falling? I guess memories are tied to emotions and I felt a little frightened. (Or, maybe I am mixing topics....)

Bonnie

Cool

Ralph W. Kelly

Corrected!

Mr. Beat

I'll look into that!

Mr. Beat

Great video! I was secretly hoping for another one of these types of videos. I also wanted to add, why did you circle Pakistan when you said Afghanistan? Idk if I’m missing something but you may need to change that (sorry for pestering you)

Ralph W. Kelly

Thank you Jack!

Mr. Beat

Thanks for sharing all that, Michael. Tell your father thanks for his service. My father was also in the military, but only briefly activated during the war, and he never left Kansas.

Mr. Beat

Matt, I'm so glad you did this video. The Gulf War memorably affected my family. I was a third grader then, as I believe you probably were as well. My dad was in the Naval Reserves at that time, and continued until 2001. His civilian job was as a nurse. He was called in Decemberish 1990 to go to the Gulf to work on the hospital ship USS Comfort starting in January 1991. I remember it was hard him to be apart for that time. We were told at first he would be gone for six months, then later about a year, and then maybe two years. Hard thing for him but for my mom as well. Thankfully, the operation was so quick and affective, he never had any patients who were wounded in combat. The only patients were people who got routine sickness (flu and such) and injuries from morning exercise while running or weight lifting on the ship itself. He was only gone for ten weeks. It was hard, but I'll always remember how proud I was of him and the military in general for the service they did.... As for the video, I honestly was not aware of all the before and after. This was so great to learn about. I'll probably be watching it several times. All the best to you, and thanks for your content.

Excellent video; concise and well-presented. Much of the material about the leadup to the war was new to me.
