The Dominican Republic and Haiti Compared

Edit: I had to re-upload the video since the first one got age-restricted. Fingers crossed this one is ok!

Compared returns, this time to the island of Hispaniola. It's crazy that this island is two countries to begin with. Sadly, xenophobia and racism may prevent the two countries from uniting any time soon.

Also, you will likely be surprised about how many things the two countries have in common.

Be sure to subscribe to hoser if you haven't already! His video won't be posted until after this one goes out to everyone Friday afternoon.

Dang, I had no idea about that! Thanks for sharing.

A cool thing i know about Haiti is that I have Polish relatives there dating back to the 1810s, Napoleon sent Polish soldiers to fight to suppress the revolution in Haiti, and upon realising the cruel systems in the country, the Polish soldiers actually took up arms to help the Haitians, due to this there are many Haitians of Polish descent across the country. It's not really relevant but exclaves of diasporas such as that I just find really interesting. Wonderful video though, I always love to watch the compared videos while eating my breakfast every morning.

Yeah, that's a good point

I would argue that the Haitian revolution delayed amancipation. it put fear that the former slaves would want revenge in those slave holders who were leaning in the direction of letting their slaves go.

And of course that's how I opened the video. 😄

We’ve been doing some stuff on Haiti in history as of recent so this has come at a great time lol

In a 5th grade science class, we were learning about conservation. One thing I vividly remember was seeing this map that showed Haiti having almost no forest and the Dominican Republic did. You could literally see the border between the two countries simply by just looking at a satellite map and seeing which side of the island clearly had trees. It was such a stark difference.
