Every Woman Who Ran for President in American History

It's not as many as you might think!

Oh, and obviously this is not literally every woman who ran for president, as in recent years at least dozens of women have ran that haven't got more than a few votes. Still, even after considering that fact, not many have run, despite 2020 being a record year for women running.

When do you think the United States will finally have its first female president?

Thank you for your continued support!

Thanks for the most obvious, most mild take ever constructed. I will award you a medal for stating something which we all believe : πŸ…

When America is ready for one. And that should be when they find a very qualified candidate who just so happens to be a woman (and being a better choice than the other party nominee).

Daniel Kolbin

Kind of symbolic indeed. :/

Mr. Beat

Great history lesson. I think we are getting closer to a woman president becoming a reality. I could see Haley either being Trump’s VP or having a small chance of being the republican nominee depending on how things shake out over the next year. I could also see Harris being the democratic nominee. Not likely, but not that far-fetched. Lastly, it is kind of sad the electoral college prevented the US from electing their first woman president in Hillary Clinton. Regardless of your thoughts on Hillary Clinton as a candidate, she did win the majority of the votes in the country and still lost. So, women candidates have gone from abysmal vote totals to outright winning a majority of votes , yet still have come up empty handed. The irony of it all!

Naterade

Man, I just don't know. So hard to predict what's going to happen in this election. Hold on to your hat.

DANTE VERONA

I do think Haley has a solid chance to win if Trump goes to prison

Mr. Beat

Among many labels I adopt, I am a humanist and also a feminist; even though I am male. Women are already half the population right there. I definitely want a woman President but the conditions have to be right... It is antithetical to human well being to elect a female US President to further advance the Republican pursuit to confiscate women's rights. That is, to pursue the the encroachment on their private bodily autonomy. The good news though as I see it, is we are seeing a striking resistance to this even in off-year election cycles.

DANTE VERONA

Jo hasn't announced. Yeah Michelle would likely do way better than Biden.

Mr. Beat

I don't feel optimistic for the current women running this time... Is Jo Jorgensen running this time? I hope you are right about 2028. Hopefully I will be around to see it. There are some theories going around that the democrats will put Michelle Obama in at the last minute. I think she possibly could win.

Gael Guerard

Wow! Interesting. I think a woman could be elected president--just has to be the right one. I think this next election would be prime for a woman to run and become president. I can understand why not many women ran for president until recently considering how women were considered. NOTE: A 1963 federal law prohibited gender-based discrimination in wages, but the pay gap has yet to close. Still, a key step in women's financial freedom came with the passage in 1974 of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, which granted women the right to obtain credit cards separate from their husbands.

Gael Guerard

For sure. At the same time acknowledge we could've catered to women in politics sooner.

Kasonia Kisangani

I think our culture has not catered to getting females into politics for far too long. However, thankfully this is dramatically changing.

Mr. Beat

Other than sexism, why do you think we haven't had any female presidents? Meanwhile other major countries have had female political leaders.

Kasonia Kisangani

Tell me about it

Mr. Beat

When will we have our first female president? Not soon enough.
