Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy

Pretty rare for dance artists at all, leading to some very creative videos instead (e.g. "Weapon of Choice" by Fatboy Slim or "Da Funk" by Daft Punk)

2025-11-07 22:14:23 +0000 UTCI think you mean "Sadeness"? It was misprinted when originally released, but it's a reference to the Marquis de Sade.

2025-11-07 20:41:49 +0000 UTCYeah, "Protection" features Tracey Thorn from Everything But the Girl and they recorded a Marvin Gaye cover ("I Want You") with Madonna.

2025-11-07 20:41:01 +0000 UTCYou were spot on with what you said about it sounding like a soundtrack. It's likely you've heard Massive Attack before because their songs tend to get used on TV programmes & films, particularly those from the "Mezzanine" album like "Angel" & "Teardrop". I can't really comment on how it fits with 2025 music as I'd much rather listen to 90s Massive Attack music than anything of the awful current chart music. If you want to hear some trip hop from other artists, I suggest looking at Portishead, particularly "Glory Box" & "Sour Times". It is the fusion you suggest in the video; intelligent dance music for the soul, rather than the dancefloor. Oh, and Massive Attack also collaborated with Madonna on a cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" in 1995.

2025-11-07 19:03:08 +0000 UTCHaha, your faces of confusion are hilarious. I'm a big fan of Massive Attack and this song, but its production is very odd and unconventional in hindsight. Personally I think there are far better Massive Attack (and trip hop) songs in general, but this was their first release and it defined trip hop as a new distinctive type of sound, back in the 90's.

2025-11-07 18:36:36 +0000 UTCMain bands in trip hop come from bristol uk. They have guest vocalists and also sing themselves. Singer here is shara nelson.

2025-11-07 18:35:29 +0000 UTCIf you’re doing music videos, check out The Box by Orbital. It featured a very young Tilda Swinton moving very slowly through 90s London. It’s hypnotic and eery. Completely instrumental and kind of sinister.

2025-11-07 17:34:13 +0000 UTCI haven't heard this song/tune in absolute yonks. Without looking it up, I think this came out around about 1991/92/93, so, the early 90s basically, I would have been 11 or 12 ish at the time when it first came out. I had no idea this was the title of this song, I wouldn't even have given it a thought until now today! I feel this song has featured in one or two films at some stage, possibly in one of the Bourne Identity series but again not totally sure without looking it up.
