2024-07-04 18:36:31 +0000 UTCWe use to play the STI game when I taught Sex Ed to my peers through a partnership with planned parenthood, but the school said I couldn’t hand out condoms, I had a secret lunch box full of them that the kids would get them from. my area had the highest teen pregnancy rate so I hoped I could at least make a little dent in those numbers. Abstinence only was not enough!

2023-10-14 22:39:56 +0000 UTChaha! love that you're reacting to this show. as an aussie it's interesting to watch because of all the slang used. ive never watched the original but am excited to see your reaction to it! i don't think it's necessarily extremely accurate - but it seems a lot like the sort of talk you'd hear in schools (well back when i was in school anyway). as for the "c" word - a lot of people do use it, but usually it's seen as vulgar or disgusting.. or seen from "bogans" which people call themselves... but i guess the definition says "unsophisticated" or of "lower class." gumnuts are a nut that comes from "gum trees" which are eucalyptus trees and are native to australia. they're about a golf ball sized nut.. so that's what the chick in the toilets was talking about but said that it was just an old dog turd haha. also "wagging" is a common term for skipping school. im not sure when the show is set - judging by the cars, i would have said it's back in the early 2000s or so.. but that could be totally wrong, as it's common for young people who are in their final years of school to have cars which are cheap. id say that the show is probably set in NSW, near sydney.. on the coast. love hearing about your cruise experience! :}

2023-09-07 01:27:42 +0000 UTCAlthough I don’t think this will ever be one of my favorite shows, my reaction to this first episode this time was not as negative as the first time I saw it. The program it most reminds me of is Sex Education, though overall I don’t find the characters as compelling in this show. Part of it is probably how unpleasant so many of the characters are to each other. Darren is definitely interesting, and I’m curious what the show is going to do with Malachi, who I found quite likable. Anyway, I will continue watching it with you and do my best to give it a chance.

2023-09-07 00:47:05 +0000 UTCImportant to note, that this is a reboot of the original heartbreak high show from 1996, which was pretty different to this one, but there are subtle nods throughout. Like the kids clothes, all public schools in australia wear uniforms, but the original show didn't as it was trying to be more "american", so they stuck with no uniforms for this version. Darren's dad is a character from the original show, who played a right-wing skinhead type, so his evolution is fun. And Darren's new boss at the fast food place is also from the original show. Some of the 90s music is also from the original show. The original series is also on netflix.

2023-09-06 22:49:59 +0000 UTCOK, so I think you missed the bombshell at the end, that harper, ameries ex-best friend, went home with and slept with Dusty, Ameries long time crush, on the same night that dusty kissed Amerie. The writing of the new "sex map" is secretly being done by someone else, not Amerie. Dusty is not exactly the nice guy, you will see in future episodes. He is still hot though 😍. So excited for you to go through the emotional roller-coaster of this show. Enjoy the laughs now, you will be wrecked by the end.

I adore this show. People kept recommending it, and I didn't listen until now. I'm glad you're watching too.

I did see this episode the other day and I’m pretty sure it’s a generational thing where I will eventually catch on but it may take me a couple of episodes to do so but I’ll get there.
