Hey beautiful people,

Welcome back to episode 2 of our reactions to Heartbreak High - not going to lie... i am getting a little bit obsessed with this show!

I definitely missed a couple of key details in the first episode but by the end of this one I think I was all clued up.

See you in the comments,

Love, always ♥️

Heartbreak High Reaction - Episode 2

Omg yes, the "what's going on" whiplash was crazy lol

Meladrix

yeah - schools uniforms are the norm here. i guess there's exceptions to the rule.. but both public and private schools generally have uniforms. "nangs" is australian slang for nitrous oxide kept in small cannisters (laughing gas). they're used commercially for things like whipped cream.. but some people use them to get high / feel the anesthetic=like effects.

Jackie I'm so glad you're enjoying this show. It definitely didn't get enough recognition or hype and I'm super pleased its been Greenlit for s2. Just a note about Darren's dad too. He was a character in the original Heartbreak High (which is also on Netflix). He was definitely not a good guy at first... racist and homophobic. His character went on a journey and developed. Its enjoyable to see how accepting he is of Darren given how he was as a kid. Its also a sharp contrast with Darren's stepdad who is the guy who refused to bother with using the right pronouns for Darren because it was too "confusing". They do look somewhat similar though (Darren's dad and stepdad... both have big beards so Darren's mum seems to have a 'type' lmao). The actor who plays Quinnie is actually autistic in real life too which is super important. When her date tells her she was acting weird etc she says "OK Sia" because Sia made a film about an autistic girl called "Music" which perpetrated extremely negative stereotypes as well as promoting the use of physical restraints on autistic people during meltdowns. Completely not what the autistic community needed or wanted. I believe Sia has since been diagnosed as autistic and has hopefully learned to listen to the community more (autistic creators feedback how harmful the film was and Sia was very ableist and dismissive).

Well said!

It is an autistic actor playing Quinni’s autistic character which is fantastic. My only gripe with the Sasha/Quinni relationship in this episode is that Sasha does not notice all of the VERY clear signs that Quinni is uncomfortable during their date. She then gets shitty with Quinni about how inattentive, etc she was. It was only when Quinni discloses that she’s autistic that Sasha shows a degree of empathy. As a mum to 3 autistic boys, it’s a huge bug-bear of mine that people are only willing or able to make reasonable accommodations once autistic people disclose their diagnosis. Nobody should be forced to share their diagnosis just to be treated with respect. *kicks my soapbox back under the bed*

Hi Jackie love your videos and reactions happy that you are enjoying this show I am from Australia and we do have to wear uniforms over here usually like the UK 😊

Maddison Ford

That’s OK – I probably shouldn’t have looked at the comments before watching the episode anyway.

Sorry, I’m not used to being the first commenter, usually by the time I get in everyone has already said everything 🙈

I have to admit, I was hesitant about watching this episode, having not enjoyed the first episode a great deal, but I found the characters more intriguing this time. I’m afraid I had already read Audrey‘s message above, so I was expecting Quinn’s autism, though I think I would have figured it out because it made me think of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime” and how that play represented the main character’s world. And I did like the conversation with Sasha at the party and the way it resolved the situation quickly rather than dragging it out. I sincerely hope Malakai is the nice guy he appears to be, because I think I’ll be disappointed if he turns out not to be what he seems. And I was pleased by the presence of a little Patsy Cline in the soundtrack. 🙂

I’m right there with you + your enjoyment of this series + looking forward (so much) to the upcoming reaction episodes ❤️

I am so happy you're enjoying this, I knew you would 😊 so much going on in this episode, we're seeing Harper maybe thawing a bit with Amerie, very slowly but she's definitely not pushing her away so much which is good. I didn't realise about Quinnie's autism until she was at the cafe then I immediately spotted all the signs, the crowds, the noise, the small space and her not being able to concentrate on Sasha. A lot of autistic people have learnt ways to deal with everyday life things and for her to even try and stay at the restaurant would have been really hard for her. I can't remember what it was Cash was up to but you can see that he is a little more hesitant when that guy turned up. I think I read something about them not wearing school uniforms as they do have to wear uniform in Australia but they wanted to make this more modern so they changed it so they didn't wear one.
