Reacting to Our Flag Means Death - Episode 9
Added 2023-12-27 06:00:02 +0000 UTCGoooooood morning beautiful Patreon family,
Welcome back to another video! I hope you all had an amazing Christmas Day and Boxing day however you celebrate. I am still fighting off illness but am having a considerably better Christmas than last year!
Today we are jumping back into Our Flag Means Death and we are SO close to the end of this first season and I have to say this show has really grabbed me now. Even though I've enjoyed it up to now I haven't been completely hooked but I think the last few episodes have grabbed me.
Thoroughly looking forward to winding down this season and jumping into Season 2 in the New Year.
See you in the comments,
Love, always ♥️

And now I’m finally up to speed with this show. And I agree, this was the best episode so far. I definitely want to see what happens next to round out the first season.

Very little is actually known about these two, and in particular why they would have chosen to sail together, so it made the perfect framework to built a love story around. They were caught and did become privateers, but after that things in the show shift away from the known facts. Season 2 introduces a several other famous pirates for small parts of the story, which is great fun as someone who enjoys pirate history.

2023-12-27 22:21:36 +0000 UTCThat was the best way to spend my lunch break! I am so glad you are enjoying this show and that you are taking us on your journey as you watch. It is like watching it for the first time again for me since it has been quite a while since I watched it originally, so I forgot a lot of the plot points (That might also just be due to my getting older and my memory is faaaaading...)

2023-12-27 18:52:19 +0000 UTCDriving home from our holiday trip and can’t wait to relax with this episode tonight! It’s interesting how many people (myself included) said they were generally enjoying the show up until the final few episodes of S1 and then it grabs them. I think part of it might be the very slow burn nature of the love story, which in the context of a potential queer relationship makes many of us in the audience nervous (consciously or not) to commit in case the show is unwilling to really go there, which is how so many of these shows turn out, especially in the genre field. Slow burn queer romances in genre shows are almost unheard of. Rewatching S1 once you’ve seen the story through is so lovely because you can fully enjoy every hint of romance in earlier episodes. Anyway, that’s one of the many reasons I’m a big fan of OFMD and I’m thrilled you’re hooked as well.
