We see just how far Kiritsugu is willing to go against another master o.o But it looks like his ennemies are just as good at this! (which is fine, because it means a bigger challenge ;) ) And Gilgamesh seems to be playing a game of his own...

2021-10-25 08:34:29 +0000 UTCYou can think of the Root as a "plane" that is the source of everything: events (all possible past, present, future), phenomena, souls, etc. Pretty much similar to the concept of Akashic Records. In general, all magi want to reach the Root for the truth of the universe. Touching and understanding the Root allows magi to obtain "True Magic" (Also known as sorcery in this universe). The magic you see mages use here is referred as magecraft. It can be achieved with time and effort. Reaching the Root (and returning) allows mages to erase the concept of impossible, granting them the ability to perform miracles that can never be achieved regardless of time or effort. There are five known sorcerers and hence currently five sorceries. Mages attempt different ways and methods to reach it, however; as Kirei said, the Holy Grail is not a device specifically designed to seek the Root. This implies it's not made for this, but it can be used for this goal.
