Something that can easily be wrong in translation. "Oji - san" in Japanese while it can mean "uncle" it is also how you would respectfully address an adult male (typically over 25 years old). The same applies for "Oni - san" which typically does mean "brother" it's also a way to refer to a young man. Kariya is not actually Rin and Sakura's "Uncle" by blood he's just a male friend of the family. Don't know their exact history, but the one he loved was Aoi however at some point she married into the Tohsaka family. Given the world of mages political/contract marriges are very likely.
