A CRITICAL REACTION

Hey All! I’ve recieved several requests to react to this one, but I was hesitant to post it since I was somewhat critical in it. Let me know what you think!πŸ’›βœ¨πŸ™πŸΌ

A CRITICAL REACTION

Comments

You may have only been reacting to musicians for a few months, but you bring a rich history of knowledge to your reactions, if You cleaned it up. you wouldn't be true to yourself. Any artist that puts themselves out there has to know that along with the praise comes the critics. I think the ones that truly make it are those that listen to people who have experience such as you have. What I liked about this was you were not only critical. but you also talked about what you liked. I think that's a balanced reaction. Good job. As the saying goes, if you're going to put yourself out there as a reactor, be honest, and I think this reaction shows that you are.

You've done it for me Tim! Ever since hearing "Jessica" by Ren and Jimmy Sharp (AKA Orleans) I have been frustrated on why that song doesn't hit for me. Now I know why! It's the issues discussed in this video.

Same! Thanks. πŸ™πŸΌ

I agree someone can sing a song really well technique-wise, but still fall short because they’re disconnected, and lacking in emotion appropriate to the song. Followed you on YouTube, and got directed here from there. I appreciate you posting this!

As someone without any training, I enjoy listening to a reactor who is truly in the scene and can tell me the TRUTH - good, bad or ugly. And you did so constructively. I want to understand WHY something sounds or feels not quite right. You're giving reason, expertise and definition to the vocals. For the first time in my life, I'm finding my own voice thanks in large part to your channel. Keep doing what your doing. It's truly great and inspiring work. Love your heart and enthusiasm!

Looking forward to watching your analysis, Tim! Hopefully I can get to a few of these today. IMHO, folks who take issue with less than stellar reactions aren't actually interested in honest, authentic impressions and breakdowns. They're only interested in reactors telling them what they want to hear; that every song their favorite artist performs is flawless. I'm here for authenticity and to learn what doesn't work as well as what does. πŸ’–

Hi Tim! The way I see it is, you have a reaction channel. There is no way on earth each artist is going to be fantastic. I appreciate, very much, that you were so respectful expressing your critical thoughts. Who knows, perhaps she would see this and take note. To me, it seems she didn't have enough good practice time, hence, the need for the sheet music which holds her back from really feeling what she is singing. As always, thanks for the awesome analysis!

You got me to listen/focus on something that wasn't Ren, so kudos. That isn't easy even after a year and a half down the Rabbit Hole! I think given the way you are positioning your channel--as a way to help singers and those of us who might want to try something beyond shower or car concerts--that everything you said is of value. It might not be of use to someone randomly breezing in, but your core audience should appreciate it either as a teacher-to student lesson, or as a casual lesson on why one artist hits and another doesn't. You might, by comparison, do some of Chinchilla's live performances like 1:5 or Ren's recent live performance of Money Game 2 (not just a beg, promise!) at the Sky Arts Awards because they both excel at creating that connection even in sort of "commercial" settings.

I have no musical skill and appreciate your reactions. Being constructively critical is vital. Some will agree and some will disagree. You weren't personal (e.g. "she's is a rubbish singer") It came across as an authentic critique, if you had said anything else it wouldn't have been authentic, you could see in your face it wasn't moving you emotionally. She can hold a tune undoubtedly, did it move me? not at all.

Hi Tim, from my point of view I think this is a kind of artificial singing only to show of her technical skills. I did not feel anything... take care
