I've long been a fan of Florence and have followed her career through the years. I was most pleased to hear she had worked her way past many of her personal demons that were really quite self destructive a few years back before her most recent album. With this piece I always get the vibe of Gospel musical elements in the performance. To me it's almost like the celebratory hymnals that populate many services. Perhaps it's because of my interpretation of the song, as one of self expression and discovery joined together that we contain many and those many in turn make our greater whole that walks through the world. I have nothing to add to the comments on the vocals that Tim has not said other than agreement. This is not a song for the faint of heart to try. And because I cannot resist a Chappell bit of lore; Last year when Chappell was on the UK leg of her tour Florence made a point of going to one of the shows and told Chappell how much she was impressed by her, which positively blew Chappell's mind.

2025-06-01 20:59:30 +0000 UTCElse and I were having an on line conversation very recently about our mutual admiration for Asaf Avidan. She mentioned how much she loved Florence and the Machine. Metalhead that I am, I had heard of them, and listened to a couple of songs, but I hadn't really gotten to know them. I have been listening to them the past couple of days, and I do like what I am hearing. I like the clarity and engagement that Florence has in her voice. She carries you along with her when she is singing. To me, the most important thing about a singer is that they understand the emotion of the song that they are singing. You can certainly see that is true with Florence. I will be keeping on listening. I suggested a favorite singer of mine to Else, and he's about as old style metal as you can get. I hope that, if she listens, he doesn't burn her ears off.
