UNBLOCKED 🙅🏻‍♂️ 'GOLDEN' K-Pop Demon Hunters: Jimmy Fallon Show (live)

Comments

If you are interested in EJAE's other music she has some demos from songs she wrote that have been leaked over the years on youtube. This is one I really like https://youtu.be/lH0YR39LoCA?si=ZV7bO8l1cB6vdQKg

Oh hell yeah! There are some really good live performances by Audrey and Rei Ami on Youtube, it'd be amazing to see it. They have such distinct musical styles. Even the demo for Armageddon would be an interesting one. It's very produced but shows a much different side of EJAE's vocals :)

Ciel

For real, she's written for so many big names! TWICE, Red Velvet, LE SSERAFIM, aespa, NMIXX... and her name was barely known until this movie! I'm so glad this happened for her (and for us, tbh!)

Ciel

Ooh yeah I love the interviews with Mark and EJAE. They really know what they're talking about :)

Ciel

Rei Ami and Audrey Nuna are artists who have their own music already. Ejae was a KPop trainee and sadly got dropped and so she focused on songwriting and stuff. I'm so excited she's seeing herself as an artist again since this movie came out. She's releasing a song on the 24th! I think even had this movie not gone viral, this movie was so needed for these women and I love that it's helped her grow and see new vision for herself. Awesome stuff.

To be fair though, this was for a movie not a real band that would expect to tour. And it makes sense with the movie because Golden is about Rumi trying to reach something unattainable in a way that's harmful to her. Plus, Ejae probably can hit that but she's had bronchitis twice in 2 months! It's for her own health. Also, pretty sure that was her first real performance. Lots of pressure!

This is a pet peeve of mine, studio recordings where singers are not always able to replicate it live or can't replicate it at all. That's why I love bands like The Warning, because if Dany is going to sing an F5 in Hell You Call A Dream on the album, she will replicate it live every single time. I'm sure that she can go higher and from some sound checks I saw I suspect that she could go as high as the 6th octave, but if she can't do it every single time, they don't do it. Plus they understand that a few well placed high belt will be more powerful, then belting all the time and having to lower it live because often the singer can't hit those notes consistently.

the psycho demo is spectacular! I wish EJAEs kdrama ost work and the League/bang bang song was on Spotify

MavenDracan

I like this version of Golden better than the one in the movie! Ejae's voice in the lower ranges is just so beautiful!

I love this! Especially that last paragraph

Your original Golden reaction is my first watch on your YouTube channel, and I joined your Patreon to watch your reaction to the movie! Thanks for reacting to this performance. I also watched your YouTube reaction to the performance, and thank you for saying this song's high note is even higher than the high note in Frozen, and lowering it by 1 key does not mean it is any less difficult to sing. As a Korean-American, I can't even describe the feels of seeing this movie take off. I never would have dreamed of seeing a movie made and completely cast by Korean-North Americans, and for it to become such a phenomenon. I also would never have imagined seeing Korean-Americans sing on live American TV and be so loved. For anyone critical of their performance, let's remember the movie's message: we don't need to be perfect or hit the A5; being ourselves, including our imperfections, is enough. I hope this movie will play a role in my culture's ability to break the expectation of perfectionism and help us love ourselves.

if you want more of ejae she is releasing her first song on the 24th but if you cant wait that long you can listen to her demo version of psycho by red velvet (she wrote the song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxrcVCDxWUc

I just watched this interview that I found interesting "How “Golden” Was Born" where they talk about the songwriting process for the soundtrack/movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaGvVQGZsRk

Aiden Stark

I got membership just for this, worth it 😅

Cornberry

One of the best parts of the show was when Jimmy Fallon broke the news to them that they’d gone Platinum.

Jeff Lemley

I recommend the Golden performance by three members (J, Sieun & Yoon) of the six member girl group STAYC. Unfortunately the Korean TV station mnet has blocked the video in some countries. https://youtu.be/gFnvecDXBhk This link should work: https://youtu.be/39gDVQmyFak?si=7VjuRu4HMGD8IBz6

Oh wow, interesting!

EJAE has written so many bangers

so glad i found your channel

I totally get it, that it makes sense to lower the register. And yes, they did a great job and the lower tones by EJAE are as amazing as her high notes. Also I didn't know about her recovering from bronchitis. And yes, it's her first live performance in over 12 years. I hope she will have a speedy recovery so she will be able to give her best performances in the future.

Please consider looking at some of Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami’s solo work also a comparison of EJAEs psycho demo to Red Velvets psycho could be fun

MavenDracan

I love this

Chiara

I like the lower pitch just fine, it doesn’t detract from the song. However, I can’t help but feel that it lacks the same power as the original. Maybe it’s because EJAE was recovering, which just makes the whole performance even more awe inspiring, but I just can’t help but feel like if I’d heard this version first I wouldn’t have understood the hype

Ejae's story is one of persistence: after a decade as a K-pop trainee at SM Entertainment she got let go because she was considered to old to debut. She found success as a songwriter, co-writing Red Velvet's hit "Psycho" and many more, recently, co-writing and performing the #1 hit "Golden" from Netflix's K-Pop Demon Hunters. Her voice was used as the 'demo vocal' until the producers found a artist. They loved her voice on the track so much that they decided to keep her as the main singer and the rest is history. At the age of 33, This was Ejae's first big live performance. The song is her story, "No more hiding, ill be shining, Like im born to be". Dreams do come true.

I’m so thrilled you jumped on this

EJAE wrote for TWICE c: for Red Velvet (Psycho was the first big hit she co-wrote at an SM songwriting camp!) and aespa as well (and some others I believe). She never performed with them though (in fact, this was her first time performing live in 12 years!) I think the most featuring of her voice she's had (before Kpop Demon Hunters) is her demos' vocals being included as back vocals in some of the songs she co-wrote (like aespa's Armageddon and Drama). And I think a couple of songs she wrote and recorded for K-dramas. Audrey Nuna has some really great songs out already and has been doing live performances. Rei Ami is also an established artist who's released some great (and particularly savage) songs! It'd be interesting to see reactions to Audrey and Rei's solo careers at some point actually!

Ciel

I was also thinking it was lower so this confirms it! I'm a low alto so I (and many of use 🤣) can't hit her note at all from the movie version!
