Also, prosthetic limbs are cheap, very reliable, and don't require attunement. Not having four of the things will always be a temptation.

He was a combat engineer in the massive war that ended like 2 years before the campaign starts.. and that front line was in Cyre.. the kingdom that was completely destroyed in a massive magical cataclysm nobody can explain (the event that ended the 100 year war,) and was a bit too near an ammo store that exploded. He was lucky to get out of the area with his most of him intact. Sans an arm and horn.
