How to create a monster

When we were creating the founder's game we had one big task from the very beginning: How do we make a monster that feels stereotypical yet unique?

SPOILERS FOR FOUNDERS GAME DOWN BELOW!!!!

In the game the player gets to play a sort of stereotypical slasher (literally called afterschool slash) in which there is a big monster trying to kill you and those who try to help you in the school!

From the beginning of this project I always wanted to make, in my words, "Just a stereotypical big guy killer"

God bless egg kertoir (https://twitter.com/kertoir) because sometimes I genuinely do not give a lot to go off of at first.

So we brainstormed a bit after this (I swear) and we landed on something similar to how Jason's mask worked from later iterations of the series.

But we didn't want to just make an exact copy mask wise, so Egg took some inspo from how the original mask was shaped from generation 1 and created this!

This was perfect for when the killer was peering through the window, but now there was the task of how exactly to shape the body

We tried going the original slasher route, but ultimately decided that it would have felt a little too "real" and we wanted the killer to be a bit more "out there" as a character. Again drawing inspiration from those old slashers (And apparently kingpin from spiderman according to egg), we came up with something a little... bigger.

There we go! Our killer! But I felt like it needed something a little more. I wanted to have some kind of world building aspect to it despite it being a very one dimensional character. So I asked for... VINES!!!

And thus our monster was born! Thankfully we had a wonderful artist Lou (https://twitter.com/louceph ) who took him and REALLY understood the vision

What a guy! This was such a fun force to have within the story and was just as cool to write for as well. Such incredible artists brought this guy to life so he could well... end it.
