Excelsior Episode 6: Career Counseling

Happy March, everyone! In an effort to be more consistent with our podcasting, here's a new episode of Excelsior coming at you hot and fast. Ideally we'd like to stick to a schedule of once a week uploads, one regular Auralnauts episode and one Excelsior. If you missed it, we uploaded a new Auralnauts podcast episode last week. Check it out for all of your Alita Battle Angel related needs.

Stand up comedian Brody Stevens took his own life last week, and it has the comedy world a little shook. On the surface, he was a guy that was in a position a lot of us would like to be in, but somehow it still didn't feel right to him. It's got us thinking about our own career choices, which inevitably leads to us thinking about the past. Zak shares some anecdotes about weird job experiences he's had, which will hopefully remind people that we're all going through our own difficulties while trying to figure out what the hell we're supposed to be doing. Who knows, maybe it'll even inspire you to become an umpire.

I love the part about you not respecting anyone until they've cleaned up a piece of human shit from under a couch. I was walking down Lexington Ave one day talking to a friend, going on a mini-rant about how the pampered 20-somethings in my office never had to do a truly shitty job because they all went to camps and had internships their parents arranged for them, and said that you have no clue what life is actually about until you've worked a terrible job - and this woman stopped me and my friends, shook both of our hands, told us we couldn't be more right and then walked away. Surreal moment but felt appropriate.

Thanks Zak, some good thoughts and inspirations in there.

I was bummed when the site no longer needed us and I couldn’t hang out with him anymore. He wasn’t exactly the kind of person you stay in touch with

Yeah you’re 100% right. My home system is bush league compared to Craven’s and so are my engineering talents. I’m getting better, but it’s still definitely trash tier audio.

Really enjoyed your stories, especially Joe the Riverman!

I loved the podcast but I have one constructive criticism and that’s to look into putting some more compression on your voice/tweaking the dynamic range of your voice track. I had a hard time listening to this in my car where I usually listen to podcasts, because I would have to crank my volume up at some points where your voice is kinda low, and then my speakers would explode when you’d pick up some volume while talking. Anyway loved the episode and I’m impressed with your resume. 💪
