Fountain Guard Spear

Gondorian Soldier Spear

Initially, I wanted to make only the fountain guard spear, but in the process I realized that they are quite similar, so I ended up wanting to make the gondorian soldier spear as well.

I saw two positive things in this:

- you will get 2 models instead of one and will probably be happy about it

- I will make both models at once and I will not need to look for references on the theme of these copies in the future

Speaking of references for the fountain guard spear, I didn't expect it to be so hard to find references for a seemingly simple spear. But no, I searched using different wordings and phrases, searched and looked through frames from the film (the images were very blurry, since I did not find close-ups of the subject of interest to me).

There was one place hidden from view on this spear (due to the angle on the reference I have). I could not figure out what form it was, whether there was a junction or a transition. In the end, I did what I thought was right (later it turned out that I was wrong, but I was on the right track).

But I was saved by one good person (Thanks again zalkegeroth) who sent me awesome references! Also another great person shared references for gondorian soldier spear (Thanks n2darkness).

After that, I corrected the form and was pleased with the result - now everything is correct, everything corresponds to the original.

So here we are

Spear options:

shaft 30.6x2030mm

blade length 650mm

As a result, there are 4 versions for each spear:

-smooth uncut

-detailed uncut

-smooth cut into several pieces

-detailed cut into several pieces

In the uncut version, there is only a separation of the blade from the shaft, there is a connecting groove at the junction.

In the cut version, everything is divided for ease of printing on printers with a print area of 200x200x200mm.

Accordingly, if you have chosen a cut version, then after printing, all parts should be glued together using special matching grooves on the parts.

Also in the cut version there are holes for the rod, they are also in the shaft (for rod 20x2000mm) and in the blade (for rod 5x550mm).

If desired, you can replace the shaft with a pipe, as there is a hole in the tip of the spear for a pipe with a diameter of 25mm. In this case, at the junction there will not be an even transition from the tip to the pipe, but with a "step". If you take a pipe that matches the diameter of the shaft and connect the pipe to the spearhead with some kind of insert, then the transition will be smooth.

choose what is convenient for you :)

I tried to make the model flexible to modifications.

2 models instead of one, quite good, in my opinion

I hope you will be happy as I am :)

Hope is kindled ;)

I'm glad that you think so :) You know exactly how to compliment an artist :D But I’m afraid that if I take on the production of this set of armor, it will not be very soon. I'll put this on my to-do list, but I have no idea when I'll get to it :)

Marrion 3d

I loved your Gondorian armor pack ! May I suggest The Swan knight armor set from Arnor ? If somebody can bring this wonder to life, it's surely you !

Gautier

Sorry for not warning about the delay before publishing 3D models in the store. Such a pause gives the model temporary exclusivity for my Patrons :)

Marrion 3d

Thank you :) I will try to make the best 3D models for you ^_^

Marrion 3d

Done !

Gautier

Oh ok ! I was not aware of the delay before the shop release. I'll be looking forward to it ! Keep your amazing job ! You're the best

Gautier

Please note that tomorrow I will remove 3d Age Gondorian Infantry Shield from access to Patreon, hurry up and download its files :)

Marrion 3d

Hello, Gautier ^_^ The Fountain Guard Spear + Gondorian Soldier Spear files have already been removed from access. When I upload a new model to Patreon, I remove the previous one from access in the order in which they were uploaded to Patreon. In a few months I will post 3D models that I removed from access to Patreon, on 3D stocks and the Patreon store

Hello Marion, your models look awesome but it seems that the links to the fils are dead, and I can't find them in your shop. Are they disabled ?

Took the printed part off the printer this morning, I'm liking the result: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AmdcVMRF6lRFia4FDLZd_-WH4CkvPw?e=sOs8fD Please ignore the z-banding on the rest of the shaft; since sanding is needed anyway I printed it on my least-well tuned printer, which is a little faster but usually gives some artefacts. But the broken part turned out really nice. As I mentioned, I might go in with a dremel engraver to sharpen the grooves a little bit, but at a normal viewing distance, it looks great.

thats not too bad, looks pretty good, I look forward to seeing the final product of it!

After some tinkering and a few boolean operations to get the outer textures of the shaft to match those of the scan, this is the end result. Not too bad, I think. Definitely worth a try, going to print it once my other shaft piece is done. Might need to 'increase the definition' of the cracks and chips in the wood a bit with a dremel engraver, to make the lines and grooves more crisp. But it ended up much better than I thought it would. https://1drv.ms/i/s!AmdcVMRF6lRFia1-WSpnoqezLfsVDw?e=bZqc2K https://1drv.ms/v/s!AmdcVMRF6lRFia4BsdyjF1A0b4zWpg?e=k7qrJb

This is a very cool solution to the problem. I feel engineering approach ^_^

Marrion 3d

I was thinking of adding the break at the bottom of the second section of shaft (I'm using the cut version - so the second shaft piece underneath the blade is where I want to break it). That would make the entire prop about 1 metre long, which is much more manageable, and it would put the citadel emblem at the base of the blade right in the middle of the prop, making it nice (and balanced) for display. Something like this: https://1drv.ms/i/s!AmdcVMRF6lRFia13cvMcV9SVqnvyCg?e=sKEGR7 Since modelling was clearly out of my skill range (I'm only good with boolean operations in 3D Builder :-D), I tried a suggestion from someone in our Discord. I broke a wooden broomstick I had laying around, carved the break into something I liked, and 3D scanned it. Waiting on the results at the moment, first timing using such an app on my phone. Will need to upscale it a little bit, but it could potentially be a solution. Once the results are in and I've tried merging it with the shaft, I'll report back.

Wim D.

Hmm ... at what distance from the connection of the handle and the blade of the spear should there be a break?

Marrion 3d

Printed the blade parts of the Gondorian soldier spear, looking good. Running the first shaft piece at the moment. I'm finding it harder than I hoped though, trying to 'break' the second shaft piece digitally. Need it to look like splintered wood. Having some modelling skills would have come in handy here (;-_-).

Wim D.

Awesome, never realised the blades were so long. To practise sanding, using bondo and filler primer, I think I'm going to squeeze this in before finishing my Gondorian helmet that I bought and printed a while ago. Sort of as a test piece. Sanding PLA is a pain, but at least on flat/smooth surfaces like the spear it should go faster/easier. I won't be printing the entire spear though, over 2.6m is too long to handle comfortably in the house :-D. I think I'll print just one shaft part, and then modify the second part to look like a broken piece of wood and have it stop there. It can be an artefact from a long ago battle, a broken spear, to display. Might have to design a plaque for it as well, to mount it horizontally on the wall.
