What kind of music do you connect with?
Added 2025-06-13 13:47:42 +0000 UTCLately I’ve been realizing that years of dissecting styles, analyzing singers and vocal techniques, and critical listening has actually made it very difficult to listen to music for fun.
A lot of the time I’m listening to music I’m planning on learning, listening to music I’ve recorded to be critical of the mix/performance, or I’m listening to music in the car while driving in traffic or long drives, or I’m listening to music when I work out.
Usually I opt for a metal playlist on Spotify (which are terrible btw) , unless there are specific songs I’m in the mood to hear. My favorite metal bands haven’t changed since I was a teen. It’s Metallica, Pantera, type o negative, Killswitch Engage, soilwork, inflames, to name a few.
I do tend to listen to 90s rock playlists, although I have to admit out of all the bands from Seattle, nirvana is the only band I know every song they’ve released.
I also listen to 50s music playlists, vintage jazz playlists, Sinatra and related artists playlists. I usually have a jazz playlist on in the studio at all times.
Sometimes I listen to synthwave as a default when I don’t know what I want to listen to.
There’s much more, but I can’t say I connect with a lot of new stuff. That said, I do find bands like Sleep Token interesting, but it’s not the kind of music I find myself coming back to often.
What about you?
