PATREON EXCLUSIVE - Is There A Limit To Human Potential?

i totally agree, i have an IQ of 93 but i enjoy working with abstract concepts because of the novelty so because of my interests i end up with a lot of friends who have a way higher fluid IQ than mine and they end up not learning much from me because the insights i reach were much more obvious to them and they reached them much faster, its tricky to take intellectual pursuits with a low-mid fluid IQ but its def enjoyable to challenge oneself to reach novel or sophisticated perspectives :D

The core of that idea is beautiful, but I think that modify children genes to make them smarter could be beneficial to only who is rich enough to afford it. I fear that this will build a bigger gap between rich and poor. That could also lead to racism for the "not smart" group of people. I try to see it with a positive mindset, if everyone will be smarter this world could develop better and faster, but only if it is planned well.

IQ is absolutely genetically predetermined whether people want to admit it or not. What most people don’t know is that there are different two types, Crystalized & Liquid IQ. Crystalized - Is the information that you’ve stored over time, verbal ability, and the recollection of it. (A metaphorical hard drive & RAM combination) This type of intellect is constantly upgraded throughout life, the degree of elevation & decline depends on the effort a person devotes. Liquid- is passed down genetically from your ancestors. Liquid intelligence is the efficiency in which the brain locates patterns, spatial manipulation, and abstract problem solving. (The factory CPU that can not be upgraded. In some ways, a mid-lower level liquid IQ makes life easier and enables a more positive socialization experience, but limits individuality and novel experiences. ** Alex, I’d like to play the opposing party on the genetic manipulation issue, though not for any religious or fundamentalist reasons. I think that humanity as a species has tremendous potential, as you do, but a hierarchy is always needed. If everyone is “Smart,” I think that an even greater societal discontent would manifest due to the lack of appreciation for the mundane, rudimentary, or “mindless” tasks. Thus, settling the “gas-soaked” discontent aflame all from that lack of true fulfillment. Then...,there’s the “too many chiefs, not enough Indians” problem. The constant arguing on which genius has the best solution (not idea). Hell, that’s done now in this world where “Dunning-Kruger” reign as supreme leaders lol. Thoughts?

This is why Narcasisits can be extremely successful

"Some people when they fail, they take it personally - they get ughh, I didn't succeed in this task because something is defective with me and they get scared to try in new things because - that sense of failure comes up. But someone with high self esteem - they never make it personal, they never make it about them. They assume there was something wrong with their execution or something wrong with other people, wrong with the world, but it motivates them to keep trying and trying and trying... This is something we need to breakthrough about" - Aleksander Grace. Most important point here as I see it.

Loved that movie - was just going to comment something similar because truth be told, I don’t see that path as having a great outcome.

The part of the discussion about engineering babies to increase their potential reminded me of the movie Gattica.

I think the connection with relationships and what kind of emptiness and replacements people tend to when it’s away is really interesting. Maybe another video could be done regarding this, maybe there is some research too. Regarding importance of high IQ versus 1. Work ethic, 2. Self control / gratification delay and 3. Emotional childhood attachment style I think I read different things in various books. 1. For example that hard work (work ethic) was more important than IQ as proven in a good study (that I can’t recall) 2. That the “marshmallow test” about self control in very young children predicted future success more than almost anything else 3. That securely attached children extremely outperform avoidantly attached children

Amen with the awareness of our own limitations, that opens the door for compassion of self and others . Believing that everyone is "limitless", which goes against any physical law, can only lead to blame and self hate.

Can you also please do more research of IQ's importance? As I know the 21st century is getting more and more about EQ. You can also find many billlionaries with average IQ of the 20th century, Richard Branson is probably the most famous "not very high IQ CEO".

Short answer is: NO. Self-Limiting Beliefs are very real. You can do just about anything you want to if you put in the effort, time, and energy into it. It requires that you take chances on yourself. This isn’t some Tony Robbins shit either. Depending on what you want out of life, the work is going to be hard, challenging, and it could cost a lot of time to get to where you want to go. Everything in life that’s worth it is hard in difficulty but, you can do it as long as you dedicate yourself to mastering and accomplishing your craft. Those self-limiting beliefs though, if you can get past those, it will save you a lot of time. I wanted to be a pilot when I was in high school. I wanted to fly for the military. My grades weren’t up to the academy’s standards so I thought that was the end of the road for my career in the air. I tried other jobs like being a video coordinator for my favorite sport, teaching kids, etc. All of these things did not give me the satisfaction that I was looking for. Fast forward a little later in my life and it turns out that the Masters degree I got in college for Sports coaching made me eligible to become a pilot for the Navy. I am in the testing process right now but with all of the work I put in, it looks very promising and I know I will get to be a pilot here in the near future. My condition (mild form of Aspbergers Syndrome) was perceived to be something that would keep me from graduating high school and college. I took care of that too. Guys, don’t make the same mistake I did. If you have a dream, go for it. For those of you who already have a family and have responsibilities to tend to, communicate with your partner to see if there is a way you can get your dream while taking care of your kids and being a good partner. I’m telling you, whoever is reading this, don’t spend another day thinking you can’t do something you always wanted to do. It sounds like positive Mumbo jumbo. I know it does. Trust me when I tell you it’s worth listening to it every once in a while. Don’t shoot down your dream before you even had a chance to try to see if it will work out. At least give it the attempt. And regardless what happens, you won’t regret the result because at least you know you tried.
