While many of the core principles of archaeology are universal, it always pays to have a local expert on site who intricately knows the regional peculiarities, and who is able to identify and contextualise the typical finds likely to surface. So, whenever we visit the West Country, we call upon the expertise of Carl Thorpe of the Cornwall Archaeological Unit.
Carl runs the unofficial Time Team fan club on Facebook, and you may remember him from the 'From Constantinople to Cornwall' episode (S15E10) on Time Team Classics: https://youtu.be/qz6qQS3LL8k
Continuing the themes from that episode, Tim and Carl discuss Cornwall's important ancient trade links with the Mediterranean, owing to its rich supply of tin β an essential raw material in the production of bronze.
Carl also shares his greatest ever find β an amazing discovery that inspired a book by bestselling author, Sir Michael Morpurgo! Incidentally, you can watch our own Teatime interview with Michael (in which we discuss that find) right here: https://youtu.be/-1eHouscAW0
