Meet the Producer Patrons: Session 1 (Part 2)
Added 2021-03-28 17:44:48 +0000 UTC
Picking up where Part 1 left off, we return to our opening session with the Producer Patrons for the promised Site Wrestle – and it's a great one too!
Our Producer Patrons have found a couple of fantastic sites of their own to bring to the table: Houghton on the Hill in Norfolk, home to a small church with a huge story, and Blick Mead, a mysterious site just a few miles from Stonehenge in Wiltshire...
Bring it on!
A fascinating site. would there be any value in exploring it's proximity and links with the area of Vespasians Camp - it's neighbour? There is evidence for prehistoric occupation there.

Re. Blick Mead - David Jacques is working on the site on an ongoing way, and has written a book on it!

A wonderful conversation. Blick Mead sounds like a worthy site fir Time Team depending on what isn’t yet already known and what could be gained from a dig. The period covered by the site is one that there is still so much more to learn about. I would love to see a dig focussed on an area similar to Oban in Scotland where DNA research is revealing new insights on the transition from the Mesolithic to the Neolithic. In the words of one of the researchers in that area, Dr Sheridan, “It is clear that some locals did ‘get jiggy’ with some of the farmers.” The old ideas of population replacement due to conflict and introduced disease are being challenged. I am sure there must be similar sites that could add to our understanding of pre-history. I would love at least one episode focused on a burial site and the use of DNA as this is technology that has also advanced so far. With the new format of pre and post dig resources this is something that wouldn’t have been possible in three day only format.

It's Saturday, and the video is not available. :-( Same message as the other video.

I should say I don't know if I am pronouncing David Jacques' name correctly. It looks French, so I have used my non-existant French in pronouncing his last name. I am sure someone can correct me.

Having the same issue on the Android app, but works fine if I run it through the phone browser (or the PC). Have contacted Patreon on Twitter in the last hour, but yet to receive a response.

Houghton on the Hill looks a fascinating site, with finds from the Iron Age onwards, and a deserted medieval village. There seem to have been two archaeological investigations in 2000 and 2001 during restoration work to the church. A veritable 'palimpsest'!

Hi James, we did visit Jamestown for a Special to celebrate the 400th anniversary in 2007. A fascinating dig, when many well-preserved artefacts from the original European settlers were recovered from the well.

Tim, May an American suggest a site in the USA. I would love for you to investigate the original James Fort at Jamestown, Virginia.

I seem to remember Blickmead, though I wouldnt have remembered the nam. I watched the documentary a few year ago. If I recall, it was a 'pool' that was hidden in a small wooded 'copse'. Presumably just left alone as too wet to farm, so hidden over time. I dont remember what let the team to investigate; I will have to revisit the videos. Sound great, if there is more to find. Were the flints offerings, or what it a knapping site?
