Finding Eanswythe

*** Apologies to anyone having trouble accessing videos. This is a wider platform issue that we have raised with Patreon and hope to have resolved asap. Thanks for bearing with us in the meantime. ***

In this fascinating discussion with Dr Andrew Richardson of Canterbury Archaeological Trust, Dani Wootton gets the lowdown on an incredible 1400-year old detective story, involving an early Anglo-Saxon saint and member of the Kentish royal family.

St Eanswythe was the grand-daughter of King Ethelbert of Kent and aunt of the two princes murdered at Eastry (as featured in the Time Team episode S13E06).  For years it was believed that her mortal remains resided in the local church in Folkestone, Kent which is dedicated to her.

Then, in the 1880s an ancient casket containing a pile of bones was discovered in a hidden alcove in the church. Could these possibly be the mortal remains of the early English princess?

Andrew explains how modern scientific techniques – including carbon dating, isotope analysis and DNA analysis – are helping to shed light on the discovery, helping to settle the mystery once and for all.

I joined late so catching up all stuff. Not sure whether I will find the video as I move on - but in the meantime - found it on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54Xb-7sbOA4

It's Saturday, and the video is still not available. :-(

In previous Time Team videos, I could not access Vimeo vids on my I-Pad, but could on my laptop (using Safari). This one I can't access on my laptop either. I do hope they can fix this soon!!!

I am extremely disappointed not to be able to view this film. In view of the fact that most of us cannot see this post, can you not, exceptionally, make this film available on your official Time Team Youtube channel? Who knows, you might pick up new Patreon subscribers!

Cannot see it, using Win-10 and Firefox ??

No luck watching this. Hope it gets resolved.

Should also add this is via Firefox.

What an amazing piece of research combining the best of different techniques.

The problem accessing videos is definitely not a problem everywhere: Even though I'm using a rather uncommon operating system (FreeBSD) and a not sooo much used web browser (Firefox) I have no problem accessing the videos. As the problem might be related to some java script magic used in the streaming setup, a switch to a different web browser might help. Firefox e.g. is available for most systems, I suggest you give it a try.

Can’t access the video, but the link sent me down quite the rabbit hole of obscure English history. Interesting!
