Dig Strategy: Carenza's Key Questions

We recently previewed a snippet of Carenza Lewis discussing the upcoming Roman villa dig on the Broughton Estate, Oxfordshire. We’re pleased to now share the entire conversation.

What you are witnessing here is a rare insight into the process of preparing for a dig – the kind of strategy conversations that go on behind closed doors in the lead up to a shoot.

When the villa was first discovered, the Broughton Estate commissioned Oxford Archaeology to carry out a small-scale preliminary evaluation in order to confirm its presence. A key figure on the team was leading Roman Oxfordshire expert, Paul Booth, who will be joining us on this year's dig.

In this dig strategy discussion, Carenza and Tim refer to the findings in that original evaluation report. While it's not necessary to read the report to follow the conversation, suffice to say here that it highlighted a few anomalies on the site and raised some fascinating questions that Carenza would like to get to the bottom of...
