S22 | Dig Watch | Knights Hospitaller: Site Snapshots

Our Knights Hospitaller preceptory dig has drawn to a close, and we're busy cataloguing finds, filling in trenches and returning home.

We're now collating all of our behind-the-scenes content (photos, videos, models and more) to share with you in due course. In the interim, we hope you enjoy these quick snapshots taken over the weekend.

Many of us hadn't seen each other since our 2021 digs, so there was much catching up to do. Despite some rain, thankfully the downpours we had expected didn't fully materialise.

Thank you for all your fantastic questions, which Derek and Lawrence put to Stewart Ainsworth, Helen Geake and Hilde van der Heul. Look out for their responses in our upcoming Spoil Heap Q&A sessions.

We have captured a range of fascinating insights, providing unrivalled insight into the archaeology and production process. All will be revealed in our full Dig Watch coverage, coming soon.

We expect to return to our usual coverage directly from the site for the next dig, and we will announce our revised timetable shortly.

And last but not least, thank you again for your patience and understanding, following the unexpected passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Really enjoy seeing the photos, but they are taking a long time to load. Perhaps a lower resolution?

Can't wait for more, keep up the good work!

Love the photos... some of them are ripe for a "caption this" competition for your Patreon followers!!!

Kerry Hennigan

Great photos I can't wait to see the new episodes.

Love all the photos - thank you so much! I think you are doing an awesome job of keeping everyone updated and involved. There are so many moving parts and I am sure it can be very challenging at times. Keep up the great work - psyched to see everything 👍🙌

Hi Charr, thanks very much for your thoughts. Just to note, out of respect we have paused our full dig coverage until after the Queen's funeral. We're also looking forward to sharing all the news, once our normal programming resumes. We've long recognised the talents and knowledge of Stewart, and the incredible site he has selected for us won't disappoint! Thanks for your patience during this unprecedented time.

(Warning: This is going to be a little long.) I love Time Team. I'm looking forward to these two new digs. However, my husband and I were just discussing how we miss the enthusiasm and energy of the original presenter (Tony, of course.) The current presenters are lovely people, but they don't move the narrative along like Tony did. (We know that Tony opted out.) Also, as paying patrons, we've been looking forward to photos that reveal more than groups of people standing in fields. We ARE thankful that someone finally decided to feature the talents and knowledge of Stewart Ainsworth. OK - I feel better now. :-) Let's keep digging.

Charr Skirvin

excellent photos - as a photographer I appreciate the work that individual put into this. 2023 can't get here soon enough.

I'm so excited to see what comes out of this year's digs, and DO tell us about the local pubs, too! :D

Emily Boulting is striking the classic "Director pointing at something" pose that all directors are required to do for publicity photos.

Not sure John Gator is looking at geophys data, he is looking online for the nearest pub with decent real ale and good food.
