S22 | Dig Watch | Anglo-Saxon Cemetery: Q&A - Send your questions now

The time has come to start sending us your questions!

Please use the comments section below to ask away. Again, begin your reply with the name of the specific individual, or keep it more general and we'll put it to the team.

As well as the Anglo-Saxon theme, please do include any wider questions about Time Team, archaeological techniques, real ale and fruit-based pizza toppings.

We'll do our very best to answer as many as possible for you.

Everything: Anglo-Saxons: Unearth history with facts, photos and fun! (National Geographic Kids) Paperback – 22 July 2021 by National Geographic Kids (Author)

Question for Gus, in two parts: How does your career in institutions and museums inform your hosting on Time Team? And, how do you think your work on Time Team will inform your work in institutions and museums?

Melissa Rybb

General question for any diggers or cast members: From an archaeology perspective (not just if it makes for good TV), do you enjoy yourself most if the dig starts with lots of excitement and tapers off, starts slow and builds, or is steady throughout?

Pauline R

Mick (and Helen) often referred to how few Anglo-Saxon sites there were and how that made interpretation difficult. Could you speak to how the availability of Anglo-Saxon sites/finds/understanding has changed since the series ended and how that affects current interpretations of whatever you might find. What do we know now that we didn’t know then? Best of luck with the dig!

Anglo Saxon sites were often a problem for geophys in the old episodes. Generally speaking, what has improved? Are there new techniques, or have there been improvements with the pre-existing techniques?

Diane Jones

Presumably you guys don't just pack up and go home on day four. I was wondering how long it takes to do things like "record and back fill" and if some digs ever really end at all... do they just move from the field to the labs & libraries?

Paul Faulkner

Some of the older episodes required you to stop the dig when finding bones. What is the protocol for when you must stop and call a different authority figure vs simply carry-on with the archeology?

Kathleen Garza

He discussed this on Twitter- it no longer fits unfortunately! Follow - @R1100GSBlueNose and ask him!

Having watched Time Team for years Iam delighted that my 11 year old daughter is also showing an interest, especially in the Anglo Saxons! Can anyone recommend any books, places we can visit or resources which would be good for an almost-teenager who is just beginning their archaeological journey?

Paul Blinkhorn - Do you still have the Ramones T-shirt you wore the prior series and if so, how old is it?

Mark & Jill Jefson

Questions - Yes I have one - Have people been turning up on site? Reading between the lines, is this an issue now? As I keep saying times have changed yet your format does not embrace change and is thirty years old. People want live TV now, they want to feel part of the dig as it happens, not watch it in four months time. Football and tennis are better live than why not Archaeology. Or perhaps they want both a live event then the polished article later to answer the questions raised. Why not embrace change rather than fighting it. Perhaps the main 'offering' is not a polished programme after Christmas but the 3 day live event. Four days if you include the setup the day before.
