Way back in April, Dani and Naomi treated us to a chat all about some vibrant, conical glass beads that had turned up in soil samples from Naomi's flotation task.
Many colourful beads have been discovered as grave goods, not only in Roman burials, but also those dating from the Anglo-Saxon period.

This sparked a debate over how these wonderful beads would originally have been made.
Eager to find out more, Dani tracked down expert craftswoman and experimental archaeologist, Sue Heaser, to pick her brains. The result is this fascinating masterclass on Anglo-Saxon glass bead making.
Sue is an excellent proponent of experimental archaeology, demonstrating the value in recreating historic crafts using only tools, materials and processes known to be available at the time.
Sue's pioneering work brings us closer to the people who lived over a thousand years ago.
