S22 | Dig Watch: Knights Hospitaller Preceptory: Halston Chapel - 3D model
Added 2022-10-25 08:29:39 +0000 UTCIt's time for another 3D model, on this occasion of the beautiful Halston Chapel, created by Adam Stanford using aerial photogrammetry. The trees around the chapel have been removed digitally, giving us a closer look at the building and its immediate surrounds.
This chapel is the only building currently standing on the site of the possible Knights Hospitaller preceptory - but is it a later addition to the landscape or is there a direct link to the Order that once resided in the area? Maybe Time Team's investigation will help to resolve that question in due course...

I didn't realize they'd put a brick bell tower onto a timber building. Were they built in different phases?

2022-10-26 18:35:15 +0000 UTCIt looks like the bottom of the wall adjacent to the tower is different from both the tower itself and the rest of the nave. Looks to me like remains from an earlier building phase, possibly without a tower and with a wider nave or with a connecting cloister.
