Roman Dead: Investigating the Broughton Sarcophagus

As Tim Taylor has announced, we're thrilled to be returning to Broughton in Oxfordshire for a second year running, to investigate the sarcophagus that led to the Roman villa's discovery.

Tim recently caught up with Dr John Pearce of King's College London, an expert in Roman funerary practices, to discover more about sarcophagi. In this fascinating conversation, John places the Broughton burial within a wider Roman tradition that stretched across the empire. John also explores some of the modern scientific techniques now available to archaeologists that are shedding light on ancient funerary rites.

Oh I'm going to have such fun here as a fan! The little bit about the how the sarcophagus was put in the ground was fascinating. Thank you to everyone who gives their time for this and in this case, of course, to Dr Pearce.
