Dig Watch: BoB Operation Nightingale (Wiltshire): Day 1

Without further ado, we're thrilled to share Day 1 of our Band of Brothers dig with Operation Nightingale.

As you'll see, the finds are already flying in and it's only the first day!

Special thanks to Andrew Smith who found David Kenyon Webster's manuscript, and the Webster family for permission to include it.

Hi Ross, thanks very much for joining us. To be included on the flag you'll need to have opted-in by completing the form and specifying the exact name by the date we shared in various Flag of Fame posts. Unfortunately, we can't include names without actively opting in to give consent on that form.

I have joined Patreon this year to support TT, will my name be on the flag for 2023?

Ross Gibson

Hi Robert, welcome aboard! Thanks for joining us, we appreciate the support. Lots more still to come, so look out for the next update.

Loved Matt's presentation! This has been the dig that's finally encouraged me to sign up to the patreon - loving the immediacy of these reports, a bit like the old days of the big Time Team Live shows. Recognised Aldbourne from the trailers - have visited it before, and had no idea of its wartime connections. Fascinating stuff!

Brilliant first day with a great mix of the background history and goals of the dig. Such a great initiative to support those who have suffered from their service.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Cheryl Kurucz

Yes, Ive been a few times for that.!

Aldbourne was the setting for the Dr Who episode The Daemons... with Jon Pertwee and the Brigadier.

Peter Hugh McDade

And not to be forgotten, the late Stephen Ambrose, author of the book “Band of Brothers”. 👍🫡

Eggs Ackley

Brilliant stuff - well done Matt for stepping up into the role of presenter - must make a nice change from being forced to live as a monk or prisoner for 24 hours!

Mike Tedham

Great presentation can’t wait to watch more

Rachelle Gates

Interesting dig with lots of relevant details, enjoying Matt's presentation.

Enjoying this so far. Thank you for participating in this dig.

This inspired me to pull out my Grandfather's military records for the first time since his death in 2014. He served in the 82nd Airborne/320th Glider Field Artillery Battalion, so not the 101st but I love the insight into how he may have lived while the 320th prepared to do their part. He shared few details about his experiences in WWII or Korea beyond an oft-repeated joke about how standing on a hill with your hands on your hips is a good way to get shot. The most he ever told us came out during a visit to the U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville North Carolina. He had cross-trained as a pilot, so when they needed additional glider pilots and navigators due to losses he was sent over in time to be in the Navigator seat for Market Garden. He avoided planes for the rest of his life unless ordered to get on one.

Beer comparisons. Getting into the serious investigation! Fabulous video.

Looking forward to this, since I have studied a lot of Easy Company and have a lot of their personal books that a lot of Easy Company wrote, of their service, while there, and around Europe, serving under Maj. Dick Winters. Of ALL the time teams I have watched and rewatch, even now, I think for me, THIS one is gonna be MY favorite!

Donna Oglesby

We need to give a shout out to the entire video production crew on this Dig Watch. I think this was the most polished production to date. Kudos to Colour Sergeant Ely for upholding his pub rights!🍺

Eggs Ackley

Absolutely fantastic! Looking forward to the rest of the dig watch.

Michael Fulk

Great video! I love Matt’s presentation style

Bron Lloyd

Excellent video!!! I'm so excited for this. Matt, Richard, Kerry, John, and I saw Steve in photos. The dream team, right there. :)

Freda Bradley

I agree. Matt, John, Kerry and Richard are all doing a great job! It has a lot of meaning for someone like me from Minnesota in the US to see this site and know that both British and US people are working there. I knew men who were my Dad’s age who fought over there and in the Pacific theater. This is doing my heart. a lot of good.

Catherine Anderson

Matt is a great presenter.
