Dig Watch: BoB Operation Nightingale (Wiltshire): Day 4

So much part of the TT culture - and mine, LOL!!!

Luke T Jacobs

Amazing job, Matt. I enjoy it immensely. You are really a star.

I’m loving following this almost as it happens, thank you to all involved.

Gillian Gordon

I am enjoying these digs, but, perhaps a personal thing, but there does seem to be contradictions to what we used to hear at other times. Some of this still in living memory, photos to show where the huts were, whole layout etc. Thee clearly must be a genuine reason for the dig, not least the therapeutic help for the veterans, but other than that, why dig it? The history of the soldiers that were there is interest enough. Digging up 'things' small finds, is usually scoffed at as not being what archaeologists are looking for, (on the whole). Dont get me wrong, If a villa or prehistoric site is discovered I want the whole thing excavated...the wrong approach I know.

Mark Lund

People can say there are documents and photographs of this site, so why do archaeology? The finds give us tangible evidence of daily life. I like Hilde's tent post finds based on the geophys. Now they know where tents were placed. This is a great episode and I love the much loved 80 year old monkey. Thank you!

Jude Edling

The people said they missed the end of day wrap-ups in the pub, and Matt's selflessly taken it upon himself to deliver. What a star.

Steve Jeffery

Me too.... I love the shirt. Where can you get one?

Richard’s DMDC shirt haha! I have one too.

Bron Lloyd

Great to see Matt reveling in his role as presenter, after so many uncomplaining turns during TT as medieval novitiate, surveyor’s apprentice, Roman soldier, etc.

Doug Brower

Another excellent day. Cheers everyone! 🍺

Patricia Amero

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Cheryl Kurucz

Really enjoying this, and will def share with my brothers (US veterans, one a former Ranger) when this is public, I know they will find this fascinating. As with other sites, I'm struck by the breadth of items that get left behind. The wheel blew my mind!

Elaine P

Excellent series. Yes, Matt, you are a wonderfully skilled host. Thank you.

Henrik Vogt

These have nicely high production/editing levels. We notice!

James D Speckart

Really enjoying this series. My husband is even watching with me because he is interested in the BoB. I love Richard's DMDC shirt.

Michelle Curiel

Hilde and John have established tent archaeology. Very exciting to watch the broader picture emerging. A well earned trip to the pub!

JUDITH COOKE

Great to see Hilde in action again! My favorite TT newbie!

Jon Colcord

It's good to see Matt going from the kid that gets stuck with the experiments to the experienced archeologist hosting the dig.

Alan Murdock

I think Matt is did a fantastic job as host and narrator...👍

These reports from the field are wonderful! This is a great format for telling the story of this very moving project. I hope the veterans are really enjoying the dig.
