Dig Watch: BoB Operation Nightingale (Wiltshire): Day 8
Added 2023-05-10 18:08:53 +0000 UTC
Guess who's back? Back again. Tony's back! Tell a friend... (Sorry, we couldn't resist.)
It has been an amazing eight days here in Aldbourne. A very special thanks to Richard Osgood, Operation Nightingale, all the serving personnel and veterans, volunteers, guests, event partners and people of the village who helped make it possible, and made us feel so welcome.
Not least, thanks to you all on Patreon for joining us on the journey and helping us to identify the finds. We've enjoyed bringing you closer to the action, and we'll be feeding back the experience and your comments into our future on-site updates.
There's still plenty more to come from our Band of Brothers dig, including some very special competitions, more photos, finds analysis, 3D models, and - of course - the documentary Special, featuring Sir Tony himself.
We'll be announcing more details on that programme and our other upcoming digs in due course, so stay with us for all the details.
Gosh golly gee willikers, don't mean to gush, but it's great to see Tony.

Tony is getting old. I hope he is alright. He sounded a bit weak. Looking forward to that special. And Matt again is a good presenter.

On YouTube is a 1943 30 minute video for the US troops called "WW2 Training film for US soldiers -How to behave in Britain/ 1943". It is very interesting and funny. Similar to the pamphlet. I am looking forward to the special with Tony. Great job on this Dig. Thank you.

The Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles has an intact Tar Paper Hut that was used at the Heart Mountain Detention Camp during World War 2.

What a great tease for an exciting special to come! I'm so glad you teamed up with Project Nightingale again. The first episode you did with them was absolutely moving and still one of my favorites. Matt did an excellent job presenting this series. Excited to see where Tony takes this!

Rewatched 'Band of Brothers' to give greater life to the finds, villagers' interactions, and actors' recollections. The beginning of the end but more to come in the special!

I don't think I can accurately describe how good this whole Dig Watch has made me feel. Corny humor coincident with experimental archaeology? Check. Absolutely *fascinating* glimpses into the past? Check. Pub scenes? Check!
A thought I had when they were looking at that discarded, bent dog tag: It was like an outside glimpse into that soldier's memories. Made me smile wryly and think, "Well, it's good enough for government work I suppose." :)

Matt has proved himself to be an excellent presenter during this dig and I hope he is given the chance to do more of this in the future (if he wants to)

I've really enjoyed seeing this longer dig, it's a nice change of pace. And I thought handled really well with little spotlights of people here and there and what they were up to. I absolutely howled at Tony's parting line. Can't wait for the special!
