Dig Watch: Announcement

It's time for our next dig!

We're busy packing our bags and sharpening our trowels for the weekend ahead. No doubt, John's flicking through his Good Pub Guide 2023 to find the chapter titled... DEVON.

We'll be sharing an announcement publicly very soon, so please keep it underwraps until then. In the meantime, see the details below.

Again, we'll be putting your questions to the team in our 'Spoil Heap' Q&A sessions. Look out for a dedicated post very soon.

Note: To access the wider range of content and benefits, you'll need to be actively signed up from 'Digger' tier and above.

Upcoming West Country ‘Dig Village’ Weekend

Time Team and local residents work together to explore the roots and development of a thriving community in South Devon.

This weekend (16th to 18th June), Time Team will visit the West Country for a very special dig that places the local community at its heart. Working closely with residents, volunteers, the primary school, and even the local scout troop, Time Team will venture into the lofts and gardens of Modbury, a South Devon community located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Over the traditional three days, Time Team aims to trace the settlement’s history, from its Medieval origins and involvement in the English Civil War, up to its fascinating overseas connections.

Dani Wootton, Time Team’s finds specialist who has a passion for community archaeology, has helped spearhead the project. Dani says: “We’re very excited to be working with the local community to discover more about Modbury’s history.”

Local resident, Rosemary Parker adds: “Modbury History Society is very excited to welcome the renowned Time Team to Modbury. It’s a wonderful opportunity for residents to delve into the past by taking part in the mini digs led by a team of world class experts and to reveal hidden secrets of our ancient and beautiful town.”

Time Team has received millions of YouTube views worldwide, since returning for new digs in 2021. These episodes have been possible with the ongoing support of over 8,000 global subscribers on the membership platform, Patreon.

Daily Updates

Over the weekend, Patreon members will be treated to daily ‘Dig Watch’ updates from the site. The completed episode will then be released worldwide in a three-part premiere on YouTube (release schedule to be announced).

Regulars including Carenza Lewis, John Gater, Stewart Ainsworth and Helen Geake will again be joined by presenter Gus Casely-Hayford OBE. Time Team is also delighted to introduce Devon’s own buildings expert, Richard Parker and genealogist, Sophie Kay.

The venture builds on the work of Time Team’s earlier Dig Village community project in Dunster, Somerset. Time Team’s creator and Series Producer, Tim Taylor, says: “I love digs that get everyone involved. We can’t wait to get started!”

The event follows Time Team’s recent ‘Band of Brothers’ dig with Operation Nightingale in Wiltshire (subject of an upcoming Special featuring Sir Tony Robinson), and episodes investigating a Knights Hospitaller preceptory, an ancient Greek settlement and a Medieval shipwreck. Next up is an eagerly anticipated release among fans: an Anglo-Saxon cemetery in Norfolk (full details coming soon).

I feel the same way. It has been so great this last couple of years or so. I love the feeling that we did this together to get Time Team up and running again. Makes us all feel proud. And am loving the content and extra information and the chat sessions between the Time team experts.

We would suggest contacting Patreon Support via the help centre on the Patreon website so they can look into whether there is a technical error on the system.

Time Team

Hi Anna, we've just messaged you.

Time Team

I'm still pinching myself that Time Team is back and it's the greatest feeling, knowing I get to play a role in it. Archaeology rocks 🥳 Time Team rules!

Patricia Amero

Not in my spam folder. It's like my renewal hasn't been recognised as mails stopped around that time.

I can’t wait for this, it’s absolutely made my weekend plans! Absolutely love it that TT is back, and this has the flavour of those fabulous live digs in eg York and Canterbury that I’ve watched over and over again since, as well as being glued at the time - we drove from Brighton to Canterbury in 2000 to peer into the trenches after the digs had finished and before they were backfilled. Magnificent stuff, thank you all!

Gillian Gordon

Thank you

Gregory Beach

Hi Gregory, we do longer digs too, like the recent Aldbourne dig with Operation Nightingale and the ongoing project in central Greece. The traditional three-day digs are principally an evaluation, giving us enough time to answer some key questions to inform and inspire future investigation. There are also practical considerations around assembling the whole team on site. However, the new Expedition Crew format is intended to complement the three-day digs, giving us the flexibility to return with a smaller team for a closer look a key features (e.g. the Broughton sarcophagus).

Hi James, we haven't change any settings on this, so not sure why that would be happening. Have you checked that it hasn't been flagged as spam? You may need to add Patreon as a trusted sender. Please let us know if the issue persists and it's worth also raising with Patreon directly. Thanks

Time Team

Excellent news.

Nicholas & Elizabeth Dyer

Any ideas why I've stopped receiving Patreon emails? Everything is still ticked on my account preferences. Thanks

James Hardie

Sounds very interesting. I am looking forward to follow the dig watch this weekend

Ingrid Mayer

I love the community digs! I'm ready as ever to see what is found!

choklityum

Can’t wait!

J. Andrew Lockhart

Great to hear you know someone involved and we're thankful to the people of Modbury for welcoming us in. Here's to a successful weekend!

Time Team

Thank you for the reply. I understand the situation. A friend of mine’s son is a volunteer during the dog, lucky man. Of course I’ll be watching avidly. Good luck 🤞

Anne Dexter

Hi Anne, thanks for the message and interest in the dig. We would love to invite you to attend! By nature of the logistics and much of the activity taking place in private homes, we could only accept volunteers through the local application process. With the fantastic response we've received, unfortunately, we're very sorry that we're unable to take additional volunteers at this time. However, we hope you'll join us for all the updates here on Patreon and we thank you for your ongoing support! Best wishes from all the the team.

Time Team

Thank you! Glad to hear it-and will watch along. Now to google Modbury. ;-)

Graham Stokes

Awesome, really looking forward to this dig!

Bob and Pam

I’m really looking forward to this as it’s my locality. I missed the meeting in the memorial hall but wonder if it’s possible to attend any of the digs?

Anne Dexter

Personally I think the Time Team dig should be over 7 days. At least 2 days to do the scans and 5 days to do the digs. I feel that the dig staff are under too much pressure. I do however love the show. Keep it up please!

Gregory Beach

We're working on the feature length edit of the Hospitaller dig to go out soon. More to follow!

Time Team

This is so exciting! I can't wait to watch the Dig Watches and the Saxon dig! Has the Hospitaler dig been released as all 3 cut together yet?

Melissa Rybb

I've got my official tea mug washed and ready to watch. 🥳☕

Carl Johnson

Fantastic to see the gang back, and love that Richard is involved once more, bad knees and all! :)

Leitchy

Great stuff - looking forward to the weekend

Paul Faulkner

Glad Team team is focusing on what I hope will be the lives of common/regular people.

Larry Besel, Jr.

This looks amazing. Super excited to find out more about the village I drive through every day. Really good luck with it all.
