Dig Watch | Modbury: Day 3

It has been an intense but exhilarating weekend in Devon working with the community of Modbury. We would like to thank everybody who has made this incredible dig possible, from all our volunteers to our members on Patreon.

Here's our Day 3 update!

Remember, what we can share directly from the site as it happens is just a small fraction of a bigger story that will unfold over time. The full picture will emerge as the post-excavation analysis gets underway, to be revealed in the completed episode.

In the meantime, we've got our unabridged Q&A sessions with Richard and Sophie still to come, plus more insights and 3D models, right here on Patreon.

👋 I LOVE being a part of the 'Time Team' team via Patreon. So proud... this is fantastic! 🥰 Really great interviews, excellent topics, fabulous tech, what's NOT to love? High praise Time Team 🙌

Patricia Amero

Hi Stewart, forgive the slip of tongue, using rifles as a general description! Thankfully, we've been working closely with an expert in Civil War weaponry over the dig, so we'll be exploring the differences in contemporary arms in more detail. We can't wait to show you the results in the main episode.

Time Team

Fantastic behind the scenes coverage for this dig - really been enjoying it! Very excited for the final programme.

Loz

“We’ve found a number of musket balls from rifles”. I’m going to go out on a limb and say no, no you haven’t. You’ve found musket balls from smoothbore muskets. Though some rifles did exist around the time of the civil war, they were certainly not in the hands of the common soldiery. Rifles wielded in war was unusual all the way into the Napoleonic era.

Stewart Robertson

Drinking in play parks? You ruffians! (Reminds me of my own youth!)

Stewart Robertson

Don't worry - this finished programme will feature plenty of finds, history and of course tell the full story on the investigation. We do our best to offer a balance of content during Dig Watch however as I hope you can understand we can't give away too much at this stage, but we hope if gave you a flavour of what is to come. This is just the first step and a window to allow our Patron's across the globe to follow what we have been up to during the dig and production. Stay tuned for more finds and 3D models to come!

Time Team

I highly doubt anyone had rifles during the English Civil War. They were rare during the American Civil War a couple of centuries later.

John Matthew IV

Loved it. Looking forward to the programmes

Anne Collinson

I saw Matt in this Watch and Carenza was in the first.

DIANA R NELSON

I mean this dig is specific in that regard. Plus, this is Dig Watch, they never tend to reveal the star finds only to leave them for the finished product. ;)

Jakub Jůzl

Thank you. I enjoyed that. Hit the spot!~Good job!

Graham Stokes

I love the Dig Watches because they make us feel more involved in the actual dig and the programme making process even though we are not there. This one was one of the best yet so thank you to all involved. Can’t wait to see the final programme.

Stuart Barry

Excellent “behind the scenes” taster again! Thanks to all!!

Andrew Lamb

Thanks Jon. Carenza has been busy test-pitting with the local school children and other groups (look out for her in the Day 1 update), while Matt has been putting his excavation skills to good use too. We'll be seeing more of them both in the final episodes.

Time Team

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Loving every minute of it! By the way, what is a “Soap Oprah”? Is there is book club? Sign me up. These three Dig Watches have felt more like the old school Time Team than all of the other new stuff so far. I can’t wait for the actual episode to be released! Where were Carenza and Matt on this site? Did they make it out for this?

Jon Colcord

It’s not the final program, you know. That’s a few months away.

Rhonda K Hageman

I’m more interested in finds than personalities… is more of a Soap Oprah than a traditional time Team adventure…. Disappointed!

Larry Besel, Jr.

You are spot on musket vs. rifle however the smaller size of that lead shot would suggest a pistol.

Eggs Ackley

Dig Watch makes Time Team a much more personal experience. Thank you for the time taken to produce the daily updates.

Mark & Jill Jefson

Naomi!!!!! What did you do to your fingers?

Rick Doner

I have enjoyed the Dig Watch! I have been a fan since the beginning of Time Team. It is wonderful Time Team is back! Keep up the good work.

Robert Hasler

Three days in a row of excellent TT content? Yes, please! Great work to put these together so we’ll and so quickly!

Doug Mackey

Oh you all sound tired! Such a lot of work. Thank you for Dig Watch!

Dorothy Frank

Really enjoy the extras we Patreon members get from digwatch . Now just the waiting until the episodes come out!

Trentford Heavy Industries

What great fun! I’ve been enjoying watching it while movers are packing my stuff. Tonight, off to a new city! So it’s been hand waiting through a long day of packing - Time Team is a great distraction!

Ann Wagner

Derek and Lawrence: You should know better! That round lead shot was from a musket, not a rifle. Otherwise, bravo, lads! Can’t wait for the actual programs! Thank you!!
