Anglo-Saxon Cemetery: Winfarthing Pendant 2 - 3D Model

Wow, the plot thickens! So, what did you make of Day 2? Let us know in the comments below.

Here's another piece of jewellery from the original discovery of the Winfarthing lady. It's not quite as sumptuous as the garnet-encrusted centrepiece, but it contains some impressive and intricate metalwork nonetheless.

This is the piece that features signs of repairwork on the back. Look out for the square shape on the top centre.

View the model on Sketchfab HERE.

Quite possibly I'd say, given that that sort of knotwork usually closes in on itself and doesn't leave open ends like in the fish. So it was intentional--plus it's a cross medallion.

Jon Zephanius

An episode with actually a lot of Anglo-Saxon finds in test pits, the main trenches, everywhere, has this ever happened before on Time Team? Great episode in just about every way in any case!

Mika

beautiful pendant

Le Scoob

Great work, as always.

Geoff Wilcock

So glad to finally see this episode. The pendant is beautiful.

Melissa Rybb

I believe the repair is evidence the pendant was worn (pun!) on a thong or chain threaded through the adjacent holes. Eventually, this eroded the gold. The piece must have been prized for it to be repaired, and repaired so well.

Clive McIntyre

Absolutely loving these episodes. So pleased for Helen that the suggestion of the site is well and truly paying off. Can’t wait for day three.

It's been a great dig. I really enjoyed seeing Stewart's walk plotted on the digital map...it helps the viewer understand the larger context of the site.

I have really enjoyed Episodes 1&2. When Helen got misty eyed I was so happy for her! Can’t wait to see the last episode.

Another great day! The metalwork of the 2 pendants is wonderful. And I'm glad our Lady isn't alone!

Me too. It's Time Team at its best... finding an Anglo Saxon cemetery... discovering some Roman stuff... ace!

Amazing I feel like I’m there holding it even though I am on the west coast of Canada 🤩
