Good morning, it's the start of Day 2 on site in Dorset after a fantastic opening day. We're busy putting the final touches on our first daily update video - as you'll soon see, we've had a lot of fun and a successful start. Look out for the video later this evening,

In the meantime, here are a few photos from Day 1.

Please keep your questions coming, we'll be putting these to the team over the weekend.

We're also delighted to have exceeded 9,000 Patreon members yesterday, so thank you all for helping us reach this incredible milestone. It's down to all of you that we are here today in the field!

A BIG THANK YOU FROM ALL TEAM

Trigian. The Durotriges were the tribe living in that area.

I just watched the first video, which was great. What kind of burials was Jackie talking about when she mentioned the mirror burials? I couldn’t catch the word she used.

Janet Sutton

🥳 Yay! Congratulations, Time Team! Over 9000 Patreons is fantastic 🙌

Patricia Amero

Thanks to your comment I've just twigged it was this site and that original trench Derek mentioned in one of the podcasts (or might have been more than one, I listened to several on a long journey last year). Thanks for the link!

There was supposed to be a video released this evening; when?

Hi Anna, we have lots of ladies on site too. We've updated the selection with more photos as they've come in.

Where do the camera crews go to recharge their batteries?

Danny Skarka

They’re all men. Not enough ladies on site?

Anna Schwartz

Finds in the topsoil are generally less significant because they are not in a stratigraphically secure context although, as you rightly say, they can indicate the location of a site. However, artefacts can be introduced to the soil in other ways e.g. the use of domestic waste, manure etc. to fertilise agricultural land.

Gareth Hayes

A refresher on chronology is good. Is the British Iron Age different from continental European Iron Age dates and culture? Where did the culture come from? Did it linger into the Roman period? In fact, a basic primer on the sequence of prehistoric ages and maybe a map would be most helpful. It's easy when you're not a student of archeology to get the "ages" and what identified them most mixed up. Just a paragraph and a map would do.

Kate

Thanks for the tip.

Jude Edling

hello all the time team and experts (im autistic by the way please be understanding ) wouldn’t it be great if the team went back to several former interesting sites to get more information out of them by applying some of the new groundbreaking techniques of modern archeology with old ones. Do you think combined techniques would bring some final puzzles all together ?

Stefanie Messialle

Is there ever any significance attributed to the location of a find within the plow soil layer or is it simply considered unimportant? (other than locating interesting sites)

If you want to watch Derek and Lawrence dig that original test pit, look at their series on youtube, "Career in Ruins in the Field." Corfe Castle is always in the background just like photo #1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvtfxoC-S_g
