Sutton Hoo | 360-Cam: Monday 10th June 2024

It's Week 2 at Sutton Hoo, and it has been a wet and windy start for our excavation team. It's also a changing of the guard as Hilde van der Heul has arrived on site to lend her excavation skills.

This week, we'll be mixing up the streams with some different perspective and viewpoints recorded throughout the day, starting with this clip of Hilde giving a brief overview, with the handheld 360-cam (recorded earlier this morning). Look out for some more clips on the way.

This recording is in 4K, which means (depending on your internet speed and screen size), you can watch it in higher resolution than the standard livestreams. However, you can also bring down the resolution size if needed. Click on the cog icon at the bottom of the YouTube window to change the resolution settings.

360-vision

This is a 360-degree recording, allowing you to rotate and explore the footage from every angle.

Open the video to watch in YouTube, by clicking on the title link at the top of the video.

While watching the video on a computer click and drag using the mouse or tracker pad: up, down, left and right to get a full 360-degree view in real time! You can also zoom in or out.

Depending on your connection speed, you may need to adjust the video quality by clicking on the cog icon at the bottom of the YouTube window.

If using a phone or other mobile device, it should work by simply rotating the screen.

Love this

Lee Powell

It works better for me (laptop/5G) to click on the top heading (opening it in YouTube) lower the setting as you recommend, and give it a minute to focus etc. Then it stops freezing... Smooth sailing if I'm patient setting it up.

Impeccable!!! The content this year has been magnificent and these 360 vids are an absolute delight!!! I even bought a pair of VR goggles so I can fully immerse myself from 4,415 miles away. Thank you!!

Michael Louk

I love seeing those finds flags fluttering in the trench!

Kerry Hennigan

Just wanted to add my 2¢. I *love* all these live feed accesses you guys have been doing. Even short little updates like this are so interesting. Makes me feel a little more involved all the way here from Aus.

Graham Dombkins

I watched this twice. The 1st was to survey & listen, and 2nd to gawk at the camera tech. I appreciate seeing all the neat behind-the-scenes action. 🤓I don't know how it works, but I LOVE it. Cheers Hilde & Crew.

Hope the weather cooperates for you tomorrow!

Pamela Brotherton

Great to have Hilde on board... This large trench slow pealing back of layers is different than the usual Time Team. Good to be exposed to something new on an old and special site...

Hi Irene, you may need to change the resolution size to work better on your device. Try clicking on the cog icon in the bottom of the YouTube window and dropping the quality to a lower size. Hopefully that helps.
