I love Werewolf, and I’ve had a lot of good times playing it, but I doubt a comment could convey why I think the setting is cool. What I will say is that it’s conversion to the World of darkness’ fifth edition, which came out last year, is one of the bleakest books made for playing fun make believe games with your friends that I’ve ever read. You mentioned in this episode that the Werewolf setting is very dated, in its “save the world from pollution”, Captain Planet shit. Imagine carrying that idea forward into 2024? You’re the warriors of Gaia, and your duty is to save the world, but oops, your elders and their elders before them already screwed that pooch royally. This world is likely to end in calamity and your character needs to decide how they’re going to handle that, and in fact, maybe they simply can’t handle it at all. I haven’t gotten to play as much W5 as I’d like, but it’s an interesting direction for the setting to move toward.

I am an OG fanboy of VtM Redemption. The single player wasn’t the most lore accurate (you would be killing the entire European vampire population in a single dungeon) or the most fun to play (the control scheme…) but it did have a very robust multiplayer mode, which was also prone to technical issues and hacking. Still, being able to populate maps with props and NPCs and items that you could control as a storyteller was incredible in 2000. It was basically an early version of the DM mode in Neverwinter Nights. Beyond that, the community had incredible mods for it to emulate other game lines, and the community made maps were also incredible. It’s worth it to download some of them and just walk around in them. My favorite would have to be Baton Rouge by Ezekiel Rage iirc. Also I recognize the name Kerr from those days, I assume it’s the same person!
