Lab Rats 2 Prototype - Sex Design

One of the issues I brought up with Lab Rats 1 was the fact that I have to write every single word of content that goes into the game, and that content usually only comes up in a single scene. A single minor scene may have 4 or 5 different levels, each accompanied by anywhere from 200 to 600 words. Major scenes tend to have more than that, and the hub scenes are roughly 10 000 words each. These scenes are also mostly linear, with a few branching points along the way.

For Lab Rats 2, I wanted to change the way sex is handled entirely to sex descriptions to be reused across the game. The prototype has this current system implemented:

1. When you start having sex you begin by picking a position and an object to have sex on. Each object has a list of traits that it satisfies, so a bed allows you to bend over the side or lie down on it, but you can't lean up against it like a wall. Each position requires a certain trait, if the location you're in lacks an object with that trait you can't have sex that way. Some positions require nothing other than the floor, a girl kneeling and giving you a blowjob, for example. 

2. Each position requires access to certain parts of the girl. Doggy style requires access to her vagina, while a titfuck requires access to her tits. If she's wearing a piece of clothing that blocks access, you can't start with that position. Some pieces of clothing, like skirts, don't block access while being worn, letting you quickly fuck girls who aren't wearing any underwear.

3. Once you've started having sex the action is split up into rounds. During each round you have the option to keep having sex (or getting a blowjob, ect.), pause to strip the girl down, pull out entirely and change position, or smoothly transition to another related position. The number of rounds you can have sex for will be determined by a combination of the girls stats and your own. If you have a high endurance and the girl isn't very skilled, you will last a large number of rounds. With low endurance, you may cum before you are ready (possibly failing to satisfy the girl!).

4. Position descriptions are stored as a separate object and split up into a number of sections. Each position has an intro for when you start a sex scene with that position, an outro for when you finish a sex scene with that position, and intermediary scenes when you continue in that position. The descriptions all reference the state of the girl whenever possible, describing the colour of the girls hair, size of her breasts, or current clothing, for example. 

5. Transitions between positions can happen in two ways. The first is a complete pull out, which starts from the intro to that position. Girls may not like you pulling out when they're having a good time, either becoming unhappy or doing their best to stop you. Second, you can transition to a related position without pulling out, such as moving from a blowjob to deepthroating, or from missionary to piledriver. These smooth transitions have special descriptions to go along with them, and some positions can only be reached by starting in a different one and transitioning.

6. New positions can be added to the game without modifying any of the existing code. A new position object can be created and appended to the Position_List, and it will be available as an option when you start to have sex. This should make it easy for other people to add new sex scenes and descriptions along side the official ones created by me. Modders go wild!

Next, I'll take a look at the new clothing and image system, which will let you build completely player defined outfits and have them be displayed.

You might want to rebalance the resistance gain formula with all the new training you are planning to add. Getting the ability to create purple/blue serums was a hit or miss due to Steph not always being in the lab beforehand. This resulted in if you used training on some of the characters it becoming very hard to get their influence up to 100 again. The -15 influence was a big deal.

I'd like to have a ghost outline for the MC, but I'm still working out exactly how variable the images for the girls are going to be. Ideally I'd take images of them from a bunch of different poses, but that ends up being a lot of time to do. There may be a few standard poses (from the front, from behind, on her knees, lying down, bending over), with other positions using whichever image set is closest.

This is all subject to change, but my current thoughts have you as the same MC in a different setting. Old characters may appear in various ways as well, but most will be new (and procedurally generated!) characters.

Interesting approach, and I can see how this will give more interactivity to the sex scenes, but my worry is that this may make the sex scenes feel interchangeable, hence reducing the appeal of finding a new scene. One of the things I like with the current game is the distinctiveness of the sex scenes. I suppose that one could use a system like you describe for some elements of the scene while including some scene-specific elements at certain points to get the benefits of both, but that could be a major challenge to write. Edit: On rereading the post, it sounds you plan to keep things fresh in the new approach by having enough variables in operation, so that different scenes present different options. My original comment seemed a bit too negative, whichwasn't intentional. I think your writing is quite good, and I enjoyed hunting down all the variations in Lab Rats 1. I llok forward to seeing what you do with the sequel.

I don't see it anywhere, but what engine will you use for the second game art? I hope it'll be something different than Honey Select (HS is good, but doesn't have the flexibility that DAZ or other more pro tools have)

If you are going this route you might want to look at how AIF was done with TADS, this is exactly how it operates. It's more of an object oriented game system, lending itself well into the adult arena. There are plenty of tutorials on building out games, and the sex library had almost the same sort of reuse structure you are talking about. Good stuff man, I am curious though. Will the Ver 2, have any reference to the First game? Will it inherit info from your old saves? Will it continue the story with the first Char's, will it be all new Char's, or will it be a combination of both new and old Char's? (I apologize if you answered this already, but I don't remember seeing it on any of your last few Messages.)
