Lab Rats 2 Prototype: Gameplay Overview
Added 2017-07-25 08:25:59 +0000 UTCI'm devoting this week between the patron and public release of Lab Rats 1 to do a little work on it's sequel, before returning to work on v0.10, the "Cum Slut" update. Today, I'd like to give an overview of the general gameplay. I'd like to stress that this is still very early in the development cycle, and everything here is subject to change.
First, the setting. Lab Rats 2 will be set a couple of years after the events of the first game. You play as the same character after you've finished your chemical engineering degree. Following a job offer, you move to a new city. In short order you find yourself in possession of a small business, and begin producing the serum of the first game for commercial sale.
The game will center around the production and sale of serum by your company. There are several different steps to producing serum, such as:
1) Buying raw supplies.
2) Designing and researching new serum recipes.
3) Working in the lab to turn raw supplies into serum.
4) Searching for new clients to buy the serum at higher prices/volumns.
5) Packaging and distributing the serums you have produced to earn money.
At first, you will be responsible for all of these jobs at your company. Once you have some money, you can start to interview and hire people (usually randomly generated girls) to fill these rolls instead. These girls will have the same array of stats as you, letting you fill tasks with people who are best suited to them.
Once you have some people working for you, you can begin to corrupt them as you see fit. You can reserve some of your serum production for your personal use, and distribute it to your staff in a variety of ways (covertly at first, overtly later in the game). Serum use will make girls more impressionable for a period of time, letting you change their stats and generally build influence over them by interacting with them.
As your influence over your employees grows, you will be able to do things like:
1) Change their standard work uniform, up to and including disallowing clothing entirely while at work.
2) Encourage your sales people to use "friendlier" techniques with clients.
3) Pull individual girls aside to have sex with them.
4) Require each girl takes a dose of serum every day/2 days/week as part of the company "drug plan".
Serum research will be another large part of the game. Rather than having three predefined serum types, as in LR1, serums will be designed and researched by the player. You may design a serum with a long duration, lasting several days but with only a small effect on a girls suggestibility, or one with a very short duration but very strong effect. Serums may also have side benefits, such as boosting a skill temporarily, improving skill training times, encouraging a physical change in the recipient (larger/smaller breasts, gain/lose weight, ect), or improving happiness.
Serums with more powerful effects will be more valuable to sell and use, but take more resources and time to both research and produce. As your lab grows and your staff becomes more experienced, you will gain access to more side-effects and be able to research faster in general.
Sex will be one of the most important methods for influencing a girl who has been made suggestable by a dose of serum. If you're able to bring a girl to climax, you will see a large increase in your control over them and their general slutty-ness. Different positions will also have an effect on their personalities; giving blowjobs constantly would train a girl to be more submissive, while cowgirl would make them more independent. Using sex as a tool to shape a girl the way you would like will be a key mechanic of the game.
The characters from Lab Rats 1 will be included in the game as people you can hire on. You will be able to import your ending stats from Lab Rats 1, which will change each girls starting stats. Nora and Stephanie may make powerful researchers, while Alexia excels at sales, and Mom and Lily handle the day to day operations of the business.
That's what the gameplay design of Lab Rats 2 currently is. It will obviously take some time to complete, and will follow the same general development approach as Lab Rats 1 has: Patron releases for early testing followed by public releases. I hope you find the concept of the game interesting, I'm certainly having fun coding it right now! I will have a look at the new clothing system up for patrons in a few days, the first peak at Lab Rats 2!

I'll be putting more information out soon, but the basic goal is to allow any combination of body-type, breast size, skin colour, and clothing the player wants.

Using your serum to poach skilled girls from other companies will be a part of the game. I've already got a personality system implemented, which decides the types of responses the characters will give when you interact with them. It should provide enough variation to each character that they all feel unique. My goal is to be able to recreate the five characters of Lab Rats 1 and have the system be robust enough that they hold onto their unique personalities.

2017-07-26 09:14:43 +0000 UTCOnce you've researched a new serum, you'll have to send the design down to your factory floor and have your staff (or you, early on) manufacture it. You can then grab some for your own supply and use them however you wish. You'll have access to all of your old designs, but switching your production lines will take time (which means money!), so you won't want to do it too often. You'll be able to add extra production lines to your factory, so you may keep a small side one just for your personal production while you have a main line producing your cash crop.

Does the random refer to their starting stats, or is it also to the actual characters themselves? My concern is that even a big studio game usually only has a limited supply of dialog and art to assemble random characters from, and they get kind of stale quickly.

Don't greet thou all you need to do is up the dosage as the company gets bigger and corrupt city hall into calling your drug completely safe. Plus remember the chericter can quite easily make a kingdoms out of this so you will need to take out your composition and playgorist or you will lose. Because if he loses the control of the drug the drug can be used on him and he identified the sole person in control anymore which is a hugly horrible thing for a drug kingpin
2017-07-25 15:30:57 +0000 UTCI too am curious as to what the visuals will be, if any. I got into this genre through text based games, so I'm really fine with anything as well as its well done. One thing I would like to see, perhaps not in the initial release, but eventually, would be to be able to go out on the town, a lot like HHS+. Being able to take girls on dates, or to hang out, or to visit them at their houses, where you can further influence them at various places (giving them serum at the mall, for example, and then reworking their wardrobe / getting piercings / tattoos / whatever) would be great. Or influencing random people in the town who might not work for you, but who you can have things going on with. One concern I might have would be that everything got too samey. I would consider having some kind of trait or personality system, with tags that might determine what dialogue a girl gives you when you talk to her. For example, a research scientist who's intellectual and preppy would be very different from a security guard you hire on who's independent and tomboyish. Maybe another to show some pastimes or hobbies (like outdoors, computers, reading, music, or social events) that we could condition overtime to make girls ideal, but varied. As long as the girls have sufficient variation so as not to be too samey, I think you've got a good thing on your hands. Also, I would suggest being able to use drugs to add size or remove size, as I like to have varieties. Good luck with the new project, I'm excited to see how it turns out.

2017-07-25 13:59:58 +0000 UTCi really like that it sounds rather similar in some sense to hhs+ if anyone know that game something that i like :) i love these kind of games and especially the ones that work on a i can change what is common sense kinda idea like games where you can change public or your workplace to believe that having sex og running around without pants is considered common sense and completely normal XD mind control games are great but its even greater when that theme is used to change the entire mindset of the people even after that control is removed i also really hope different clothing become available as it sounds like mostly since just going full naked doesent sound too fun for me but almost ? yeah thats great XD

So with that, maybe we have to inspected by government officials where we need to corrupt them. Underworld elements will try and steal or coerce us into making the drug for certain nefarious dealings. We need to hire butch security girls with loads of muscles and comfortable shoes lol.

It's a nice sandbox approach that has complexity but hopefully won't go as overboard as "Superpowered". I hope there will be plenty one time story elements too, like organized opposition to your business since you are essentially selling date rape drugs.

I'll be curious how you work all this out, will you continually have all the drugs you research available or will you only be able to produce a certain number? Limiting it seems more realistic, while providing bonuses for those you do produce, but you have to balance it somehow.

Can't wait to see how things turn out. :) Also if there is one thing I'm REALLY excited to hear is the addition of physical changes. BE is one of my biggest kinks so I really hope this new dynamic character system will be able to handle some extreme busts. X3 So keep up the SWEET work. :D
