Lab Rats 2 Progress
Added 2017-11-19 07:01:00 +0000 UTCI've been working on image set generation for Lab Rats 2 over the last couple of days, specifically implementing a render automation script in Daz which should make my life a whole lot easier. That automation work is all finished up now, and I've finished tweaking the model I'm working with to produce the 3 different body types that will be used: Thin, Average, and Curvy, and 10 different breast sizes: AA through to FF.
My current prototype for Lab Rats 2 has 10 or so clothing objects in it that I want to replace with the new art from Daz. That will take a few days to get done, and give me time to work out any bugs in my workflow. I'll be putting up some comparison images for patrons in a couple of days, so you can take a peak at what the change in imaging is going to look like!
Once this initial imaging work is done I'll be turning my full attention towards getting some temporary art assets into the main game - backgrounds, menu styles, that sort of thing. It's a fun change of pace being back at the beginning of a development cycle and I'm excited to get LR2 that I can turn into a demo and share with all of you!

If you want to get even more fancy you can also remove the head expression render ;)

2017-11-21 08:24:32 +0000 UTCI'm guessing that LR2 will actually end up either the same size or smaller than LR1. Each of the clothing images takes up a relatively small amount of space and can be losslessly compressed very effectively. Instead of a couple hundred unique full body shots like in LR1 the art for LR2 will be in small chunks that build up to produce a full sprite, which should be space efficient in the end (and far more flexible).

2017-11-21 04:53:25 +0000 UTCIt's a potential problem I'm aware of. I've got some thoughts on how to handle it, but I'm going to wait until I'm farther along in development of those systems.

2017-11-21 04:49:14 +0000 UTCNot a problem on my part because I have big hard drives and 300Mpbs internet connection, but I'm starting to think that LR2 will be huge (in installed and download size) because of all those additional files that will be needed for the different bodies and outfits. Do you have this in mind or you already know how to make the file sizes at a bearable size without compromising quality?

2017-11-20 09:09:41 +0000 UTCI'm only planning on FF's for now, but adding a few more sizes to the top end wouldn't be very difficult at all once I've got things rolling. In general LR2 is being built to have content added as quickly and painlessly once I've got things set up (but set up takes a little longer to do).

2017-11-20 04:12:05 +0000 UTCGiven that you will have procedurally generated characters you could have some config people can change for body types that show up in game similar to HHS+. One the basics of LR2 is done I'm interested to learning how you plan to make the procedurally generated characters unique/interesting. HHS kind of just feels same-same (as it is a generated game) which got boring really quick.
