Lab Rats 1 Asset Release and LR2 Bug Fix Release!

Two major things to announce tonight! First, I have released a bug fixed version of v0.3.1 that should solve a number of common crashes. You can find the download links on my Patreon home page. I have included a change that may fix the Mac and Linux version, testing would be appreciated. The android version is still on hold while I try and troubleshoot a crash with the Ren'py android build.

Second, I'm releasing a pack of assets that match the characters for Lab Rats 1! Grab them here: Lab Rats 1 Basic Assets

If you're interested in modding LR1 or creating extra content for it let me know, or if you've already created something cool and want to show it off let me know!

Can conditions output on harem?

Федор Иванов

I wanna see what kind of mods for lab rats one and have endins for sandbox difficult not disabled

Tom Clark

Hmm, strange. I'll throw it on the pile of bugs to hunt down!

Vren

Not currently, I'll make sure a way is added for v0.4.

Vren

When modifying a girl's wardrobe (after her stats are really high), the "delete an outfit" and "wear an outfit right now" buttons appear to be messed up (they both seem to do delete).

Dubsington

Once you have a lot of attributes researched, the serum design screen gets hard to read due to overlap: <a href="https://i.imgur.com/qYHn4IB.png" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://i.imgur.com/qYHn4IB.png</a>

Dubsington

Can't speak for 0.3.2, but I spent multiple consecutive hours playing 0.3.0, and I can't say I noticed a major slowdown.

Bingbong

I think there's some kind of resource leak. The game gets slower the longer I play it; it seems proportional to the amount of buttons I've hit more than wall-clock time. Watching the python process I see the resident set size growing monotonically. CPU utilization goes up as well, but never comes close to pegging a core. Restarting the game restores normal performance (for a while). Is anyone else seeing the game slow down after they've been playing for a while? It becomes expecially noticeable when I give a girl serum, then click rapidly through chat -&gt; flirt many times in order to raise her sluttiness.

Dubsington

Oh, and one more issue with the "give employee a bonus" commands (week and month versions): The changes in obedience do not necessarily match the float up, since those changes are calculated by the modified command the_person.change_obedience_modified(change_amount) while the float up always shows change_amount instead.

Bingbong

Easy bug: the "give employee a bonus" options are currently freebies, in that they don't actually deduct the money. You'll want to add $ mc.money -= the_person.salary around line 3454 of script.rpy (and analogues).

Bingbong

Resolved the issues similarly in the commit 6df879 , but these crises have not occurred yet in my game, so the commit is not yet tested.

Hi, looking at the GitHub, I notice you seem to have fixed the location issue when drugs are created. Just as a heads up, I've noticed that this issue can also occur (in reverse) for other crisis events (at the very least, I know that if the A/C event occurs while you are at the lab, afterwards you end up seeing the "general background" despite being in the lab). You may want to check if your fix also covers these similar issues.

Bingbong

In a repository on github I placed some commits to make the menus a bit less tedious: <a href="https://github.com/picobyte/Lab_Rats_v2_mods" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://github.com/picobyte/Lab_Rats_v2_mods</a>

As it turns out, the room menus are all the same (literally the same piece of code), except options appear or disappear according to availability. The real culprit concerning the position of the "Do Something" (and "Go Somewhere") button is hence mister "Talk to Someone" who comes and goes. I mentioned in a post a while back that I think it would be good for "Talk to Someone" to become greyed out (and unclickable) rather than disappear. And I agree with the visual cue for night, though I'd maybe extend the point. There are also insufficient cues concerning the location of the MC (most places still look the same) and even of objects, by which I mean the serum. I remember that in my first playthrough I was very confused as to where the serum was actually meant to be, location wise. Or put another way, all of locations, time and items can feel a bit too ethereal at the moment, is what I guess I'm trying to say.

Bingbong

A few UI suggestions: Can you put the Do Something button in the same spot in every room? That's the button you use the most for grindy repetitive stuff, so it'd be good for the muscle memory if it was in the same place. A hot key for it would be helpful as well..... I'm thinking if you had the number keys (including the num pad ) map to buttons that'd be great. In the room screens 1 could always be Go Somewhere, 2 could always be Do Something, and it would really speed the grinding up if you didn't have to mouse around. Second, could the inventory and stock screens be merged? It'd be less confusing if there was a single table that showed exactly where all the serum was. A business log would be great too. "Thursday afternoon: Bought 20 supply, Used 22 supply, Created 1 TypeX Serum, Researched 22 pts toward Blah, Sold 1 TypeX Serum for $150, Hired Lisa Jones, Moved Kelsey Biggenhooters to Production." That would really help figure out what's going on. You get most of that at the end of the day, but a running log would be great (especially if there was an option to make it visible in a little textbox somewhere so you could see stuff happen ecah unit of time). Also, a visual cue for night would be good, like darkening the background. When trying to fast click through things I keep ending up wasting clicks because I tried to do research or whatever at night.

Dubsington

Is this phenomenon taking place in the daily summary or in the numbers on the left of the screen? Also, were you close to the supply threshold? Because near the cap the math works a bit differently. Say the chosen cap is 500, your girls production potential (per turn) is 110 and your girls supply potential is 140. Then you will see your supply effectively cap at 390, since each turn the supply team will bring in only 110 (so as to not go over the chosen cap), and that 110 will be spent by production. Under these circumstances, having the MC work on supply changes nothing. However, if you move the MC to production, and his production is 20, then (after an adjustment turn) you will see the supply cap at 370, with the supply team bringing 130 each turn, which are spent by the 110+20 production. TLDR: in some specific circumstances you will actually order more supply by having the MC work in production rather than in supply. Could this be what you were observing?

Bingbong

Hard to prove it, but I think there is a bug in supply procurement. I sometimes get into a state, especially when I have multiple employees working Supply, where if I have the MC order supplies the amount actually decreases (by more than it would if I hadn't ordered) instead of increases. I can usually get that behavior to stop by resetting the supply threshold.

I have been modding LR1 on and off for a while. Mostly tweaking UI(Fonts and general looks), been thinking of adding some kind of non-repeatable content independent of the sandboxy stuff. But it's hard without the asset. My writing and Ren'py skill is absolutely crap so I don't think I'll do much on that front. Still, it would be fun to mess around. Also, it seems like the game used to create LR1 was modded? The imported characters are missing shoes in my HS, and I have no idea how the pregnant body was created. Edit: Nevermind I found the mods.

Is there a way to undo uniforms and let them wear unique clothes again?

TextileMonster

Linux is still crashing, same reason. Per the ren'py docs it looks like you need to switch to a version of ren'py that is greater than 6.99.15.3. You are currently using 6.99.14.1. I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred. While running game code: File "game/shader/shaderdisplayable.rpy", line 2, in script init python: File "game/shader/shaderdisplayable.rpy", line 5, in &lt;module&gt; import shader ImportError: ('Unable to load OpenGL library', 'GL: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory', 'GL', None) &lt;/module&gt;

Yeah, you can contact me directly at vrengames@gmail.com

Vren

Thank you for the report, I've found the bug and I'm fixing it right now. The correction should be included in v0.3.2 in about 30 minutes.

Vren

No plans for any of the character assets, but the characters themselves are going to be remade in Daz at some point going forward.

Vren

Absolutely! I'd love to see what you've done with the game!

Vren

You need to pay 2000 Buckazoids to the ether to unlock Mandatory Serum Testing. Then you can give them to a girl when talking to them.

Troqu

I've actually been tinkering around with a couple of mods for Lab Rats 1. Haven't finished them, but slowly but surely they're getting done. One is an extra training type. Another is increased training-centric dialogue. Finally, I've written some extra scenes that can occur after you turn down an opportunity to use a serum (such as after a movie date with Lily). Toying with the idea of extra endings, too. When any of them are finished, would you like me to PM them to you?

Kedokata

LR2 is looking better and better! First, a suggestion: Please, please put a "go to bed and return here" button that comes up at nighttime. The amount of clicking wasted in { go somewhere -&gt; going back to the bedroom-&gt; return-&gt; do a thing-&gt; go to bed-&gt;go somewhere-&gt;back to what I was doing before-&gt;return } is huge, and not really fun. Second: Is serum use implemented yet? I have some in hand, but can't find a way to actually administer it to girls.

Dubsington

Vren, is there a way to contact you privately without becoming a patron? I made a patch which allows you to train your sex skills, and I'd like to send it to you for review and/or inclusion.

Piotr Sulecki

Are there any plans to incorporate LR1 assets into LR2? I sure would not say no to Stephanie or Lilly hanging around at the all too empty home... It would sure keep the just a little bit grindy new play balance values from being as annoying. Hmm. maybe I'll do a LR2 mod...
