What I'm Looking for in New Crises
Added 2018-04-22 07:04:27 +0000 UTCWhile the re-rendering of Lab Rat's image library continues (70% complete as of this minute) I'm writing out some new crises for the game, as well as expanding on existing ones. Like the random events of the first Lab Rats, these crisis events give the player a chance to see their corruption efforts in action as well as give them interesting choices to make.
Every crisis event has a few things I want it to accomplish:
1) Force an interesting decision. An interesting decision is one that doesn't have a singular "correct" answer. The choice between +$500 or +2 Skill will have different answers depending on the state of your business.
2) Provide new interactions with characters. It's easy to fall into a routine where your employees are just numbers. Crises force you to interact with them directly and in unusual situations. In many cases these events are skewed to highlight already interesting employees - your most slutty, least obedient, least happy, ect.
3) Provide a temporary shortcut to content unlocked later in the game. By giving glances at these abilities early on I can telegraph to the player what sorts of things are possible without giving them away entirely, building suspense.
4) Highlight corruption progress. As the game goes on and your employees become sluttier and more obedient you gain the ability to resolve the same crisis in new ways. This can give a clear indication of what kinds of effects your actions are having.
Not every crisis is going to meet all of these goals, but a good crisis meets several of them. Equally important is making sure the crises aren't boring, which is worse than them not being in the game at all.

The Marketing Department could have a rich set of interesting crises based around the "Male Oriented Marketing" attribute; you're sending young women in slutwear out with orders to titilate, after all. Some things that come to mind: 1) Upon visiting Marketing, you catch one of your marketers flirting/making out/blowing a customer (depending on sluttiness of the girl). You can choose between telling her to not do that in the office (+Obed, -Happiness), congratulate her on her initiative (+Happiness), or if sluttiness is very high, join in (sex scene, +obed, +happiness but customer might react unpredictably: Either a jump in sales income or a penalty from it). 2) One of the marketing girls with a low sluttiness is in trouble. The customer assumed that she was a purchasing incentive and is trying to force himself on her; she is texting the MC from a hotel bathroom. You can tell her to go along with it (-large amount of happiness, girl might quit), ignore it (same, but smaller happiness penalty), or bust in and rescue her (huge bonus to happiness, small penalty to sluttiness, and you acquire a sales penalty for 24 hours while marketing adjusts to find a new customer). 3) A marketing girl with a very high sluttiness engaged in a gang-bang at a customer's purchasing department. You get a complaint from the company president insisting that she be removed from the account and another marketer assigned to it. The marketing girl insists that the guys (and girls) in Purchasing see it otherwise, and will drop their business if you do that. Player can comply (24 hour sales penalty, marketing girl -happiness), ignore the request (marketing girl + happiness, 50% chance of a 48 hour penalty as the CEO goes ballistic), or (if you have a second marketing girl with sluttiness > N) send someone else on a "sales call" to convince the CEO (depending on charisma of the girl you send, will either smooth things over entirely or trigger the 48 hours sales penalty).

You can suggest a topless or nude party, which will cost happiness and increase sluttiness from base for party (probably topless will cost employees happy even after party boost unless slut > 20 before bonus)

Do nothing (no effect), lift skirt (minor boost to slut and minus to happy), grab butt (medium boost to slut and minus to happy), lift skirt and grope pussy (major boost to slut and minus to happy). Note that all of these will be affected by current sluttiness (sluttier will care less or even enjoy it). Perhaps have an obedience check based on new happiness to see if she decides to sue (cost $500 hush money) or quit (raise/hush money or lose employee).

Go to sex store, ask to speak to (female) manager, talk about your product (requires breast growth, breast reduction, or sluttiness boost). She isn't sure, come back later. Step 2, come back and ask again, she agrees to try your product. If she is seduced and cums, she agrees to buy and stock some and see if it sells-possibly a permanent boost to sales. If you seduce but she doesn't cum, she chases you out-try again? If you don't seduce her she may still order a small sample to see if it sells-one time sale of 5 units.

You have been invited to a book club meeting by the girls of your office, and asked to find a book for everyone to read. If you pick "Essentials of modern corporate communication" you get an obedience boost. If you pick "Funniest Fridays," (ugn, title needs work, a funny book) you get a happiness boost. If you pick Busty Businesswomen you get a small sluttiness boost. If you pick "Pussy party," you get a slittiness boost and happiness drop-modified by the sluttiness of your workers (someone with sluttiness 1 would get 1 sluttiness and -10 happiness, someone with sluttiness 50 would gain 5 sluttiness and 5 happiness-you really get her taste in "literature.")

A bit of that may be because they are not currently fleshed out, and a bit because I'm not 100% sure what Vren's direction with this is and don’t want to go too far off the rails with the suggestions. That said, I totally went off the rails and added new locations. Enjoy: Kitchen- [Cooking disaster (this would only work if the player A) had a prepare dinner option or B) cannot teleport directly to bed at night like we all have been doing so far] Solve by: Ordering in (-$25, summons food delivery person, 50% chance it is a girl you can seduce over the course of multiple deliveries); Eat it anyway (small % chance of inspiration towards next serum). [cooking disaster (date version)] Solve by: Ordering in (- $50 happiness may be lost depending on girl's personality however if you managed to up the delivery girl's Sluttiness high enough the option to attempt a 3-way is unlocked); Dose it with serum so she won't notice the taste (Charisma check to get her to still eat it, on failure she loses 2 happiness and suggests you order in, no delivery girl scenario); Get her too drunk to notice (may fail depending on girls personality, 25% chance your date passes out and ends the evening, 10% chance not even alcohol can save that wretched meal and -3 happiness) [Empty fridge] This is mostly a random event to keep the game's economy in check as med-game serums start generating a large amount of cash. Also forces you to explore the world a bit. Solve by: Ordering more via your smart fridge (assuming you bought one at the Home Improvement Store <you vren="" welcome=""> ,-$75, 50% chance of delivery girl encounter); Head to the mall to buy more food (-$65 and small % chance for flirtation with random girl in the melon aisle); Just order take-out for now (-$25, 50% chance delivery person is female, scenario will pop up again next day) Gym- [late yoga instructor , you get the option of teaching the class ] assuming you choose yes you get the following options: Teach basic pose (% chance gain of girls' Happiness based on Charisma check); Teach advanced pose (% chance gain of girls' obedience based on Charisma check); Teach suggestive pose (% chance of temporary gain in Sluttiness based on Charisma check); Suggest everyone strip down for more effective posing (Sluttiness check against average girls score, will cause loss of Happiness in girls that fall under the threshold but will still succeed if the average passes check, small % unlocks orgy option with extremely good charisma check) This option set will be presented 1-4 times with a 33% chance of the instructor showing up and taking over. If the instructor fails to show after the 4th time class ends. If you chose the non-sexy options for the entire encounter it will open up a dialog encounter with the yoga instructor (with standard options to drug/seduce/ recruit) and gain you $10 for each option you chose as payment for your services. Office Supply Store- {The copier at work malfunctions and you have an option to pick one up yourself or send one of the girls (this assumes you chose to do it)] Solve by: Buying a standard model(-$500, +1 Happiness to employees), buying a deluxe model (-$1500, +5 happiness to employees, unlocks option for you to ask the salesgirl to test-drive the model with a few ass scans. Her Sluttiness level will determine if it is with clothes on, just panties, or while you do her on the machine); Buy a discount model (-$250 and -1 happiness to all employees) Local watering hole- Yes, I made that one up, it’s a sex game we need a bar- [undocumented blind human product testing (the bartender and patrons are distracted by something going on, time to field-test some serum). This assumes that serums no longer tell you their full effects when you research them and it would have to be discovered through lengthy product testing or wanton acts of public mischief . Solve by: Just dose the drink of the girl next to you (-1 serum, 5% chance of discovery); dose a round of shots (-2 serum, 15% chance of discovery, 3 girls dosed); Spike the taps (-5 serum intelligence check, 50% chance to get caught, everyone dosed if successful). Encounters with dosed individuals will depend on what was in the concoction. City Park- Another addition- [Strolling through the park you notice (insert name here) doing some painting] Solve by: Complementing her work (Happiness gain based on charisma score); Offer to model (opens up option to offer to model nude based on charisma and her Obedience/Sluttiness); Ask to take over and get her to model (Charisma check to get it to happen, Focus check for happiness gain and possible unlock for her to pose nude if her Sluttiness is high enough); Commission a painting (-$200, +5 happiness, % chance to unlock "private art session" sexy encounter based on her Sluttiness/your Chrisma) [You are mugged while on a date(night time event, 50% the mugger is female)] Solve by: Just give them your wallet (lose 50% of your cash); Offer your date's services (happiness loss based on Sluttiness, if 100+ minor Happiness gain, 5% pregnancy chance if mugger is male, small chance to join in on the action if mugger is female); Fight your assailant (difficult Focus check, if successful date gains temporary Sluttiness boost of 50, small % chance on success that you capture mugger for $500 reward and a small Sluttiness boost on all women from the fame. lose 7 days and 50% of your cash, date loses 5 Happiness on failure ) A variant would exist for being mugged if solo in the park at night with the 'offer your date's services' replaced by 'Offer your cache of serum ' with a 50% chance the crook is dumb enough to try one and is subject to serum effects which may include fun sexy times (if they are female), turning themselves in to the cops, or even recruitment if that's your deal. City hall - Last new one I swear- [Chance encounter with lawyer/judge/politician] This is one of those slow-burn payoffs. These women would be like the delivery girl in that they are only available in random encounters (unless somehow recruited) . Interactions would be the same as with any other girl you would meet normally with a few minor bonuses gained by raising Obedience and Sluttiness. -> Lawyer's at High Obedience will give you a bonus to win lawsuits/throw your opponent's case if they are working for you or the other party respectively. -> Judge's Obedience would act similar Lawyers, however high Sluttiness will unlock sex in the courtroom options. -> Politicians with high Obedience would offer stacking discounts to Lobbying prices at -5% per politician.
2018-04-23 15:22:41 +0000 UTCI'm also interested to see where Vren takes this. Girls at high enough Sluttiness levels have lines of dialog that imply pregnancy will be a mechanic in the game. From there some interesting directions can be taken: Some games use it as an end-the-game mechanic so its more of something to avoid (but generally make getting the girls pregnant rather challenging o,r like AA2, a bit of a grind). Others keep a tally of your offspring like an unofficial score counter. AFIK only lightly modded The Sims and heavily modded Bethedsda games seem to have the whole cycle from pregnancy to childhood close to resembling realism. Since this is a sandbox game Vren could conceivably add in a full 9mo. pregnancy (or a truncated 5 month one with the explanation that serum accelerates the process) complete with your employees taking mat leave and potential paternity suits as a means of curbing players plans of 9-month total world domination. Take the rabbit hole a little further and say Vren adds a rudimentary romance mechanic, you can now marry a girl of your choosing (or be pressured into a shotgun arrangement), and over a long play-through have a family to raise and support and also face the daunting specter of losing all that if any of your affairs get found out (particularly the one with the babysitter). But that would open the option to screw your soon-to-be ex-wife's attorney... Though this is pure speculation.

You can scold both of them (happiness drop, obedience rise), pick one of them (happiness boost in one, major drop in the other, first may also gain sluttiness as an expression of being willing to go further with you since you chose her), finally you can try for the elusive threesome, with a high probability that both girls lose happiness but a small possibility that both girls gain happiness and sluttiness-and you get a fun cutscene.

This could also be a great opportunity to dose someone. Possible sub-event, one of your workers gets very drunk, and maybe very horny. Everyone else thinks you should take care of her since you are the boss... Drunkeness could be simulated by a temporary increase in suggestibility, and horny should be obvious.

If they cave their obedience will go up. If you raise their pay they will get a short term happiness boost, plus obviously the pay vs ideal pay ratio will change. This event should only fire if 75% of your workers are unhappy.

You make a batch of 10 doses of a random drug (as above, possibly including things you have not researched). Suddenly you realize you have just wasted a lot of expensive supplies, and you don't even know what the drug does. You have the same options as above though. Also, realized that random drugs might be tough to code, so you could have 5-10 pre-made mad science drugs for the events to pull from.

If you take them they will have high happiness and loyalty-they've seen what other jobs are available for them. Or they can call and describe their dead end retail job. Granted, this will mean keeping track of which employees quit/were fired.

You see your employees at the break room and offer to get them coffee, not only is this a $ for happiness for all employees (granted, small one, say $5 and 1 happiness), but it could be a chance to dose one of your employees if you don't have the mandatory serum testing business policy. Or if $5 for 1 happiness is too cheap, make it "buy your employees lunch?" and it can be $10 or $15 each or whatever.

2018-04-23 07:27:38 +0000 UTCVren probably thought of this, but pregnancies could be interesting. put an on/off switch in settings, for those who'd rather not. but the ability to take a girl off the pill if her obedience is high enough, or have her stop taking them if too slutty or happy. now she's pregnant. you run a medical company, do you produce an abortion serum, or a forget the father serum, or an adoption serum? are there legal battles? do you pay child support, and how do you afford it x2 or x14? do your girls just go slutty and get pregnant from a one night stand? how does that affect their work capacity? do we go to an extreme with dorms and childcare creches, or limit the options with childcare and infertility serums? there are easy problems w the mechanic: time being the first. this game runs in days, not months or years (decades for some possibilities). it would probably be a ton of work to establish a mechanic for some of the options i mentioned, so they may not be practical.

This could possibly be positive if the player is using drugs for themselves, as it would be a totally random drug instead of the one ordered-may include things not researched yet. Initially you get all the drugs you sold in the batch back and lose the income plus 25% (shipping both ways) and a $500 payment to someone who got a different drug than they wanted. But now you have the mystery drugs, you can take them to the lab to try to learn from the mistakes (boost to research, lose one dose), figure out what they do (losing one dose), and if you figure out what they do, and there is an effect you don't yet have, you can use another dose (and research time) trying to figure out how it works, giving 25% of the research for that effect-even if you don't have the prereqs yet.

2018-04-23 04:04:26 +0000 UTCThis is a bit broader than a crisis suggestion, but the whole "rival company" possibility got me thinking about ways such a company could interact with the systems currently in place. Let's assume a single rival company, let's call it RivalCo, structured in the same way as the player's company. Someone (maybe Vren himself) mentioned the possibility of poaching workers from RivalCo. But the possibility of RivalCo trying to poach your own employees is even more interesting. Let's say that, if the stats of one of your employees get high enough, RivalCo will start trying to poach her. If your employee's obedience isn't high, this plays just like the "quitting crisis". However, if the employee's obedience is high enough, things get much more interesting: she will tell you about the offer and you'll be able to choose between keeping her or having her accept the offer so that she can spy on RivalCo for you. The spying mechanic could be kept fairly simple, e.g. you get basic information about their products and clients, or more involved. For example, you could get different benefits depending on the division your spy worked in. For instance: -if your spy is in research, you might get access to any serum traits that RivalCo has but you don't; -if your spy is in supply/production, you could disrupt RivalCo's supply/production; -if your spy is in HR, you would get control over which employees of yours RivalCo tries to poach. The idea is that this would allow you to fill RivalCo with spies. And, once you had enough spies in the place, you could just take over the whole thing, and maybe even keep the female CEO as your spoils.

Not only can you help financially, but the other girls are willing to 'do what ever it takes' to concentrate company resources on the design, development of a creation of a one-time serum that will likely cure her. Since the FDA and other regulators will be completely bypassed here, this will all have to be done in secret. If you decide to proceed and the cure works (some high percent such as 80, generated by collective stats?), all girls happiness goes up and many have increased obedience. The cured girl has her happiness and obedience PINNED at a high number forever. If you decide to pass, all girl's happiness decreases by a small amount. Maybe the company has to spend a few days doing nothing but trying to create the single dose of serum.
2018-04-22 21:11:32 +0000 UTCI've also thought about "rush orders for specialized serum", but from a different take, so here it is: If the idea of rival companies ever becomes a thing, you could have to compete with them to fulfill special orders (paid way above the usual value) for serum with interesting trait combinations. These would have a fixed time limit (the amount of time the other company would need to fulfill the order) which might or not be known to the player. This could also escalate by having variants that require more and more advanced traits as the game progresses.
