Clothing Designer Redesign!

When the I first added dynamic colouring for clothing into Lab Rats 2 I put together a quick menu of eight preset colours that the player could select from. At the time I intended to expand it to allow for any colour the user wanted, but my focus ended up getting pulled away to other parts of the game before I could get it implemented. Tonight I decided to fix that and give the player full colour control access for clothing.

There have actually been a ton of improvements and changes in the clothing designer. The most obvious is that the player can set whatever clothing colour they want: they define the RGB components at the bottom then click on the clothing item they want to add. Hovering over the item still previews the item as before in the correct colour. The entries on the remove item list on the right side correctly map to the colour of that clothing item. A very nice quality of life change that you can't see is that the clickable area of the buttons now take up the entire button visual instead of being limited to the text area. It makes clicking the buttons much more pleasant.

There are a few more things I want to tweak, like the clothing name style and size, as well as add a few user defined preset slots, but for the most part I am happy with how this redesign went!

It would be possible to add transparent colours - I'm currently thinking about adding those as a different "level" of sluttiness that you have access to. So a piece of clothing (perhaps only some where it make sense) would have a "normal" version, a "sheer" version, and a "transparent" version, with each one getting progressively more transparent, along with a higher sluttiness value. I might also tie it into some sort of policy progression or storyline connected to the clothing store, but I'm still thinking about that. As for mismatched clothing sizes, that's quite a little bit harder to do because of the way things are rendered and shown. The best I could do is have certain pieces of clothing reduce the effective breast size of a character and use a smaller breast size until that piece of clothing is removed. I could then do a special render for "squeezed breasts" and use that for all cases where breasts are being viewed at a reduced size. It would require a bunch of new renders, but it would be possible.

It would be, but I'm not likely to try it any time soon, since a jumbled wardrobe of different colours is unlikely to look very good. It will give me way more options to set up default overwear, underwear, and full set outfits though, which should make the game look better in general.

Great to have the button being the clickable as opposed to the text on said button. As much as I like big buttons (and I cannot lie), perhaps the menu would be a bit more efficient if you shrink them down a tad (~10%).

Now that you've made the buttons for the clothes gigantic, maybe you could increase the width of the scrolling bar too? I find this game is much easier to play with the touchscreen except in rare circumstances, such as whenever I need to scroll through anything.

Would it be possible to generate random clothing outfits and clothing using this?

would it be possible to add transparent colours to the game? in around version 8 we had few specific see-through clothes and clothes like lab coat and dress shirt had a few colours that were at least a bit seethrough (at least i know when you set a black colour tot hem, they became seethrough) i dont know if we need a slider for transparency, as that might need a bit more effort in terms of deciding the sluttiness of the clothing (is this transparent enough yet?) so the options are adding the same clothing several times with different thickness of their cloths or adding some setting to the individual pieces where you set the seethrough levels (my idea is there should be at least 3 levels where 1 is normal 2 is where you can see whether or not the person in question wears underwear and 3 is when you can see pretty much anything, i did not really think about transparency in different environments, like being wet or standing in a light source) i dont know how hard it would be to add this so i dont insist on these things being in the game, and the game is shaping up nicely at the moment already so its just an idea (the only way i can think of making this feature attractive is to introduce clothing bound events or crises, but i cant think of anything properly game changing :S just variants in cases of different clothing, the crises i thought of is when someone the employee knows comes to see them at work, or deliver to them something they forgot at home or a wardrobe malfunction or something) another option to increase the variety of clothes it to mismatch the size of clothes the character is wearing, like giving someone bigger sizes to make the clothes more loose or giving people smaller sizes of clothes to make them squeeze out some parts or just to make them feel less comfortable (or to fish for crises related to clothing...) I realize this one might be too much to ask, i dont know how much of a dress up game this should be xD
